That is easily settled. The average redshift of the stars in our galaxy is z≈0. That means the relative velocity is zero, which tells us that we move with the other stars around the center of gravity of our galaxy. A very small vertical motion (with respect to the galactic plane) wouldn't indicate a tangential path, only a slight oscillation in the path within the width of the disk.

I think i read somewhere that we are effectively circling the plane of our galaxy, but we are also moving from what i call the top of the width of the milky way to the other side of the width and then back up. (Few thousand years for a cycle, dunno the time per cycle) and that movement being induce by the star gravity above or under the solar system. We wobble in the width of the galaxy (If my english is right) while circling the galaxy. Quite chaotic i suppose. :)

It may also explain some major event happening to the earth over the ages since life exist on it and before. :)

Secret doubt, AND in denial.
We have a tough case here, colleagues.
Sister! We may require the water hoses!

Well, I don't think FieryIce has put enough words into any of his/her posts to define exactly WHAT it is we're debating, frankly.

"Uhhhmmmm", okay, smarta$$, is it "whether we're in the plane of the milky way", or "whether we're rotating in the plane of the Milky Way"?

There are those participating in this thread who apparently live in a different universe altogether. Say hi to Mork for me. ;)
