Only snow we have here is cottonwood fluff flying around (in January?).
Record highs yesterday, and probably today and tomorrow, too.

And here in the mountains we're having unseasonally warm weather. Sunny as always, of course, but also temperatures pushing 60°F the last couple of days (and higher at lower elevations). Shirt-sleeve weather in January. Go figure.

I would call it a typical large winter storm. Too much snow to call it small. Small is when we don't have to fret over where to put the snow. Big is when we start worrying that it won't fit anywhere. We're at that point of it not fitting. Went on a walk and noticed some people got really fancy packing their snow into straight vertical walls in places. Also saw this snow man.

Good thing you weren't buried under snow, Geck. We heard the warnings in Sweden, too - well, New York is always big news - but judging from the pictures I've seen you only got an "irritating" amount of snow, not a catastrophic amount of it.

It's warmed up to 19°F. First thing I did this morning was check for frozen pipes; none, woo-hoo!

It's February. So winter is here. We did all right all of January, but not any more.

The Swedish summer typically culminates in July, one month after the summer solstice. But the Swedish winter typically culminates in February, two months after the winter solstice.

I think that is unfair!

I'm surprised the Swedish government hasn't raised a tax to solve the unfairness.

(I swim regularly in my outdoor, unheated pool for 8 months each year, from October to May. And I'll comfortably swim at the beach without a wetsuit in mid-winter. The ocean is normally warmer than my pool in winter.)

Also, a bit of an illusion, I think. For Malmö, anyway, you've got it pretty good. Not much time below freezing, a shorter winter dip than your summer peak, and both culminations occurring about 6 weeks after the solstices, which is typical of temperate latitudes. Overall, this temperature pattern is wonderful. What sucks for you is that so much of it is accompanied by significant cloud cover.

That's our typical winter weather. Quite often, it gets rather cold some time in December, and then in January it gets milder again. At that time I start longing so much for spring. But then comes February, and winter gathers new strength, and comes back with a vengeance.

Screwy weather here. Woke up to sun and above freezing temperatures. Toward noon the temperature dove into the low 20s and freezing fog developed. We rarely get fog here; this might be the first time I remember it ever developing during the day. It lasted a couple of hours, covering everything with rime and hoarfrost. By mid-afternoon the Sun was back, although it was still cold. And pretty. By Friday we might be seeing record highs. Crazy.

Hi Chris,
You must be a very frustrated astronomer.
I feel your pain. My house is surrounded by big trees and I wimp out at the cold.

I'm tired of being snowver-loaded and living in a freezer. When's the nice warm refrigerator weather arriving?

Nearly record-breaking cold this morning at around 5°F (-15°C). In my bathroom, the window is covered in droplet-shaped ice from showers the night before. How are the birds handling it? I looked outside and saw them sitting atop the vents of our row houses. They look like smoke stacks but they have regular warm, moist air coming out of them and the birds seem eager to warm their little feet on them; a small measure of relief against the bitter cold.

This winter wasn't really bad at all.... until the end of January, when the Blizzard came and dumped three and a half of snow on me. Then about 4-days later, February came. For Connecticut, it may end up being the coldest February ever! The snowfall this February comes in at third place in the all time record, just short of it by 1-inch! I'm glad February is over tomorrow!!!!

Well, now it's March, and so far we've had snow, freezing rain, and sleet. The windshield on my car iced over while I was driving; fun time! (Not. So so not.)

I'd rather have just snow!

Freezing fog, it sounds like its the name of some horror movie ( The Freezing Fog )
No such thing as seasons here in LA, sad.

First day of spring in the Rockies! Had a wonderful snowstorm yesterday that dropped maybe 6 inches of wet, wet snow (my rain gauge caught 0.5 inches of water). Just what we need this time of year to get the pastures going. Shot this off the deck this morning, just after sunrise (with the Sun very much in the east, of course).
