Thank you! That's exactly what I saw. The photo does not do justice to the perfect reproduction of the Sun in the clouds.

The Flying Bat and Squid Nebulae in HaOIIIRGB
Posted: Tue Nov 26, 2013 8:41 pm
by srosenfraz
The Flying Bat nebula, Sh2-129, is a large emission nebula in the constellation Cepheus. With an apparent diameter of over 2 1/2 degrees in our sky, this faint Ha region is often overlooked due to the proximity of its much brighter celestial neighbor, IC 1396.
Above and to the right of Sh2-129 is the reflection nebula, vdB 140. While having no distinct features, the nebula is interesting because it appears to also be embedded within an HII region. The image contains several dark nebulae as well. Most notably, on the left side of the image is Barnard 150 - the Seahorse Nebula.
The "star" of this image is the enigmatic object, the Squid Nebula - OU4. Discovered by Nicolas Outters only 2 years ago in June 2011, the Squid Nebula shines by the blue/green light of OIII - the forbidden line of doubly ionized Oxygen. Over a degree long, the object is extremely faint and even more mysterious in its origin. Originally believed to be a planetary nebula, astronomers have since concluded that it is not such an object. However, to date, it is unclear exactly what OU4 is!

Taken in Monument Valley on Monday 25th November. A 14 hour drive through the night from San Francisco during my visit to the USA proved worthwhile when the sky cleared for a few hours. Until this point snow storms and clouds meant that visibility was down to around 200 metres and seeing the Mesas, let alone the stars was a challenge. Hampered by occasional cloud during a window of clear sky, I finally managed to get 5 straight shots in sequence which came together to form the star trails. An amazing experience (if not cold!) watching the stars appear over this amazing scenery.

ISON Comet Sun Flyby
During the last two days, we have been following with particular attention the ISON comet through pictures of SOHO / LASCO.
We have composed this video using pictures of the C2, C3, Stereo and a simulation with Stellarium software.
This task was quite complicated due to several issues: the difficulty of downloading pictures from fully collapsed servers, synchronizing every video, and so on.
As you can see in the last pictures, it appears that the comet survived (at least partially). We hope you like it.

IC 410 the Tadpoles in Hubble palette
http://coatesastrophotography.com/
Copyright: Steve Coates
IC 410 an emission nebula about 12,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Auriga. Near the center of the nebulous region is a star cluster ( NGC 1893) and just to the bottom right of this cluster lies two structures that resemble tadpoles. These structures are made of leftover hydrogen and dust from the formation of the star cluster and the "tails" are from the solar wind coming from the stars of NGC 1893.
Imaged from Ocala, Florida through Ha, OIII and SII filters and processed using Hubble palette, assigning SII to RED, OIII to BLUE and Ha to GREEN.
20 minute exposures combined to a total of:
3 hours Ha (binned 1x1)
2 hours and 20 min OIII (binned 1x1)
2 hours and 20 min SII (binned 1x1)
Processed in Photoshop using Hubble palette

This image shows us the path to where the center of our galaxy, impossible to see due to the large amount of dust that exists between our point of view and the galactic center itself, which is located about 27,000 light-years away.

Comet Ison, photographed in full light of day.

by arieltrepin
Hi, let me introduce myself, I'm Ariel Trepin, I am 36 years old, I'm from the town of Sampacho, province of Córdoba, Argentina.
before that nothing they excuse my English, I'm writing through a translator, wanted to tell you that I am an amateur astronomer since childhood, that already adult recently I could buy my modest equipment for observation.
I wanted to show everyone you 2 photographs made from the patio of my house to the Comet Ison in broad daylight, 27/11/2013 at 15.03 UTC - 3 hours Argentina, use a compact camera brand Panasonic dmc Tz5, putting the thumb of my hand to block the Sun.
Not be very well where I have to publish these images, if here is not the right place, ask for help to indicate me where it is, and the moderators who know how to understand and move the topic to the right place.
I hope you like it, the photographs and my technique. Best regards.
