R Coronae Borealis at two dates shown

The inverse nova R Coronae Borealis imaged at the dates shown.
This star had been sitting near its minimum (left image) for many years, extremely unusual.
I imaged the region recently with the Canon EF 200mm DSLR lens and was amazed to see that after years near minimum it had brightened up considerably.

Here is an image of the Fireworks Galaxy (NGC 6946) taken over two nights earlier this month (October 11 and 12, 2015). Total exposure time was 36 minutes using 20 second subs at ISO 6400. A Canon 6D was attached at prime focus of a Meade LX90 12″ telescope, an Antares f/6.3 focal reducer was placed between the camera and telescope. Looking forward to adding more time to this image.

This is an animation of the inverse novae R Coronae Borealis.
I first imaged this with the Sky 90 array and was highly disappointed that it was still around mag 15 in August 2013.
It had been around the minimum for years and I was expecting it to be quite a bit brighter.
I then imaged this region with a 200mm lens in May 2015, not giving R Coronae Borealis a second thought.
I was amazed when I took a closer look that RCrB had brightened up considerably after so many years in the doldrums.

I was impressed with the animation of a most fascinating star, but I had to google to actually find the animation. So I'm posting
a link where you can see the animation and read a little about the star, too.

Thank you very much Ann - as you can probably tell - I was having a lot of trouble trying to get the animation running on Asterisk

Both Asterisk itself and Flickr are not very friendly to animated GIFs. Asterisk because usually animated GIFs are too large in filesize and we want to take into consideration people in all sorts of low-bandwidth situations and Flickr is just Flickr. You might try imgur next time. You wouldn't want to post the image directly on the forum but a link to an imgur page would work nicely.

Glad to be of some service. I saw from the link that your image was processed by Noel Carboni. Do say hi to Noel from me - he used to grace the pages of Starship Asterisk* as Mr Spock!

I'll certainly say hi to Noel for you - he is working flat out on his astroimage processing software right now
