Milky Way from Lake Anasagunticook
Here is an image from dark skies of Maine. This is imaged from the Canton lighthouse on Lake Anasagunticook in Canton, Maine. We took the motor boat a half mile to this site (a small island) and found we were out of fuel on the way back. There is nothing like rowing across a still lake in the middle of a clear dark sky in Maine. I often wonder why I moved...

Walk with ISS

My husband took a virtual spacewalk following ISS - on the ground. He said he enjoyed it a lot!
I watch and photograph ISS whenever I can, but wanted to do something funny so I asked my husband if he'd like to help me with it. As I described him what I planned he agreed as it seemed to be mad enough for him to do. He waved goodbye to ISS when it began fading as it entered Earth's shadow.

Proper motion of stars
Recently I found that the images taken for the Digitized Sky Survey around 1990 are about the same image scale as the images I take now with
my TEC-140. So I decided to make a comparison between an image from 1990 and 2013 of NGC 7331 and Stephan’s quintet. It clearly shows the stars are not static and that there is a lot of motion. I tried to show most of the stars that I could see moving… I have never seen so much change in such a small field on this timescale...

Oh yeah, the moving stars (among other things) have really thrown me off when I try to use Hubble data that's years apart. No doubt you've seen it there too. It's like finally hitting frame #2 on a movie that has billions of frames. How humbling.

Is this a fairly typical way of presenting spectrums? I've never seen it like this before. I really like this. The Hubble people wanted everyone to pick their favorite Hubble images and even told us to pick our favorite spectrums but the presentation of spectrums is so... well, it's scientific, which has a beauty if you know how to appreciate it, but I can't help but try to think of ways to make them more easily understandable by the average Joe.
