I didn't know that chimps could grow as old as humans. Cheetah, the chimp (or one of the chimps) who starred in the Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan movies in the 1930s has just died in an animal sanctuary in Florida.

At least the chimp who just died is believed to be the famous Cheetah.

I found this news story to be quite amazing... not just because of the age of Cheetah, but because I would never have even considered that any animals from movies in the 1930s could still be living, long after the actors themselves are dead.

Once I gave it some thought, though, it doesn't seem quite so amazing. The occasional human lives past 110, so the idea of a chimp living to 80 is pretty reasonable. There always have to be a few animals- or people- out on the wings of that bell curve. It turns out that the maximum lifespan of quite a few animals is much longer than we might think.

It would seem that for some, it pays to 'monkey around'.

On the subject of Chimpanzee's, this one really cooks

I don't know about stalwart, Ann, but i manage to sneak in a few little things around the edges.
It does occur to me though, that we now know that we are surrounded by yeti. From the depths of the cold oceans below, to the heights of the cold mountains above, to the forests that surround us in the middle. Yeti-Yeti everywhere, but hardly a sighting in sight. Oh-well, maybe later on.

Well, I guess that Tintin has seen the yeti, if no one else has spotted him. This picture is from my favorite Tintin book from my childhood, Tintin in Tibet.

Dam Goats

This is the Diga del Cingino dam in Italy.
Just when you think you've seen it all, here is the cleaning crew.
These are European Ibex and they like to eat moss & lichen, and lick the salt off the dam wall.
It's a good thing they are Very sure-footed!!

At first I thought you meant dam-n goats, but this is a site where we don't swear, so I realized I was wrong.

They are amazing, aren't they? The dam goats, not the dam-n ones. They are Beyond belief, if you don't mind my saying so. And to think they have hooves on their feet, too. Well, don't they? I've always thought that hooves should be stiff and not good at all for advanced balancing acts. It would seem I was about as wrong as can be!

I have to agree with owlice, too. These goats are really so cute! Wonder if I will get a smilie if I write the word "cute" between two colons? Probably not, but it's worth a try!

They're not as :cute: as Ann's little white one, owlice.
All mountain goats (as far as i know) have flexible split hooves for sure-footedness, Ann.
