Looking through my files, I noticed I had a lot of different scenarios to mix the conjunction with :)

Rio Salado, General Belgrano, Provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Hi,

This is my first submission to the APOD as some friends told me to do it. Here is an animation made from pictures I processed from the New Horizons Lorri images taken between the 16th and 22nd June 2015. I posted it in the UMSF forum, here is a link to the discussion :

http://www.unmannedspaceflight.com/inde ... t&p=221691

Some explanation of the post-processing pipe.

All images have been processed with IRIS from Christian Buil and the following sequence :
- registration of all 3 or 4 LORRI images from each date
- addition with min-max rejection
- x1.33 the levels for the days with only three photos available
- move the background level to 0
- deconvolution using Vancittert method, FWHM=2.3 and 4 iterations
- spline upscale by a factor of 4
- wavelet with factors 4, 2, 1.2 and a remain factor of 0.80
- save as BMP

Then
- rescale and rotation with Photoshop CS2 to fit the grid provided by Pluto Viewer (barycentric, viewed from New Horizons from 45000 km)

The animation :

Image

Note that the animation dimensions have then been decreased by a factor of 2 otherwise it would have been too big to fit in most screens...

Enjoy !

Fred

Waiting for a night fish… with planets
Copyright: Petr Horálek
http://www.astronom.cz/horalek/

Here slowly comes the end of June 2015 and with this end should come even more remarkable event than just turning over the list of calendar. Just a dozens minutes after sunset a pair of bright planets – Venus and Jupiter – are taking the center stage as the Moon is waxing. Like on this shot, where I witnessed that by the twilight on 23rd June 2015, while I was waiting for a night fish. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch anything, but the view worth it. The closest meeting of the two planetary wanderers will come on 1st July 2015 and then we will loose the planets from the sight for a while…

First color image of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko

Post by PepeChambo » Fri Jun 26, 2015 5:41 pm

67P_20150624_screen.jpg
67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko @ Jun.24,2015

Planewave 20" CDK f/4.4 reflector & FLI PL09000 camera (L:1×120s Bin1 + RGB:1x60s Bin2) remotely from Siding Spring (Australia)

Image of the periodic comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko taken on June 24, 2015 entering to inner Solar Sistem with a brightness still near magnitude 14,5. I think is the first taken in color. The geometry of this apparition of comet 67P is very unfavorable for be observed from Earth being always at low altitude above horizon. In spite of difficulties for take the image shows a tail of 5' long, and with more contrast can be detected a greenish envelope of 1,5' diameter around a small inner coma whitish and very condensed in which is located the Rosetta probe orbiting the comet nucleus.
