Moonset in Oslo
Copyright: György Soponyai

Image

On my journey back from the Spitsbergen to Hungary three days after the successful Solar Eclipse spotting I had 17 hours of transfer time in Oslo Airport. The clear weather, the lack of clouds inspired me to travel to Olso city center and take this photo instead of just sleeping in the Airport. The Akershus Fortress was built in the XIII. century to protect Oslo. The wall of the Fortress was the ideal location of my photo sequence with a perfect outlook to the Western-Northwestern horizon above the harbor.
Photos were taken every 10 minutes from 19:45 to 22:55 in the evening, the heavy wind made some of the Lunar and Venusian disks slightly blurred.

Valley of Stars by The Art of Night, on Flickr

The Tasman Valley in the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand, is an amazing place to visit by day, but once night falls, I can honestly say it one of the most amazing night skies you will ever see. I recently spent a night under the stars there above the glacier lake. It was a spectacular view looking down the valley, especially when the Aurora Australis lit up the sky to the south. The bright band of the Milky Way spanned overhead from east to west, and there were so many shooting stars that night, I lost count - it was certainly one incredible night under the stars to remember!

it was beautiful to see close to the nebula which facilitated the search,

and from in early May will be visible at sunset. to like another looming is the C / 2013 SU10 (Catalina).

Argimusco - the heaven above the eagle monolith
http://www.dariogiannobile.com

Click to view full size image
Between the Mediterranean sea and the volcano Etna (Sicily - Italy), the upland of Argimusco stands towards the sky. An impressive and evocative place where different monoliths emerge from the ground. Recent studies demonstrated that the site has been used as a natural calendar in order to measure the seasons' cycle. Different shapes characterize the monoliths like the praying woman and the eagle rock here in the foreground with the stars rotating behind.

In the next coming years the Argimusco could become the Mediterranean Stonehenge.

Twilight Aurora
Copyright: György Soponyai

Image

On the evening of the total solar eclipse in Spitsbergen around 21:30 a very impressive Aurora Borealis was visible. At that time the Sun was shining 9 degrees below the horizon -- it was nautical twilight then. The Adventtoppen mountain (786 meter) is illuminated by the Western-Northwestern horizon from the back, the difference of brightness of the mountain sides is obvious. The foreground is painted orange by the lights of building of Longyearbyen Camping (the Northernmost campsite of the World) and the nearby Longyearbyen Airport.
