Marco Lorenzi, I'm compelled to comment again. Your wide deep portrait of galaxy NGC 1313 is nothing short of amazing. You reveal a huge, huge tidal(?) plume of gas apparently thrown out by violent processes going on inside NGC 1313. It is so clear to see, and it looks absolutely incredible.

Indeed it is a fantastic image! However, the greyish nebulosity is actually integrated flux (or galactic cirrus) that can also be seen in this deep AAO image: http://www.aao.gov.au/images/general/HC ... _list.html
It is similar to the recent epic image of NGC 7497 and MBM 54, there's a whole lotta dust out there!

Thanks for pointing that out, starsurfer. Interesting. It sure looks as if the galaxy was the source.

Hi all,

Just joined and hope this is the correct/best way to submit these images?

I took this a couple of weeks ago, I realise that Comet P168/Hergenrother is still a long way out and pretty faint but I thought i would give it a go! It's 47 frames, each 5mins long. The animation was created in Photoshop.

Mission 26 Moonrise
The moon and Venus rise in the very early hours of a Los Angeles morning as the Space Shuttle Orbiter Endeavour rolls down LaTijera Blvd on its journey to its final resting place, the California Science Center. This photograph is a still frame from a timelapse video created by myself, Matt Givot, Joe Capra, Chris Pritchard, Andrew Walker, and Ryan Killackey.

This image was taken on a cold winters morning while visiting the Shetland Isles. I woke in the early hours to see some breaks in the clouds. Since the previous 2 nights were spoiled by heavy cloud cover, I got up to make the best of what I had that morning. I headed out to a dark spot in the village where I grew up. I only had a few minutes in between clouds patches to get a few exposures. Only after this picture was taken did I realise I had had simultaneously captured 2 satellites, a shooting star, the lights from a passing airplane and a slight aurora glow in the northern sky

Aurora Rays! East Greenland

After some mild activity earlier in the evening. I rose at 2am with some hope of getting the milky way. This was not sure if this was possible as a very mild aurora casted a shroud over most of the Northern and some of the Southern sky. Green above and reds on the horizons. Although very interesting, it made long exposures of the milky way almost difficult. I managed to get this shot from that session. The Aurora streaks out like rays from the sun.

Venus and rising Sun

During last Venus transit the Sun was rising here in Czech republic. So people enjoyed kind of different show. Not only the transit itself, but also atmospheric phenomena of the sunrise. At first - green flash and refraction effect on our star. And - of course - similar phenomena effected the dark planet's circle. From almost 7-hours transit people from central Europe saw more than 2 hours of so special astronomical event. And people all around the world were very lucky, because there were also sunspots on the Sun to compare, how dark they really are. While the Venus circle was black, the sunspot aren't so black as the planet, because they have around 4500 K (around 20-times more than atmosphere of Venus).

Used Canon 550D, ISO 100, MTO 1000/10, first image without and next two images with Baader astrosolar filter.

On Oct 20th I was out at a lake near Haukipudas, Finland to shoot some timelapse sequenzes of the milky way. Auroras in green and red joined in from the North as well as a meteor passing.

This shot was taken at -5C° on a windy night in Paso de San Francisco, Argentina. On the left you can see El Nevado de Incahuasi, a volcano with a height of 6.638 meters. On the right there's Nevado Ojos del Salado, another volcano with a height of 6.864 meters.
