Punta Ameghino
After Sunset, the crescent Moon was near the Milky Way, in this place, the night colors are so amazing, even affected by light polllution from Puerto Madryn (lights on the left) you can still have an amazing view of the night sky. The cliffs, cold water, birds and whales pass by around the area. This is an amazing view of Punta Ameghino, near Puerto Madryn, Chubut, Argentina.

Seeking Venus under the Spitzkoppe arch
Copyright: Petr Horálek
There are not so many places in the world, where you can feel so small and nugatory in compassion to the nature around you, but also such grateful to the world to be the part of a moment in this beautiful natural spot. With no doubt, one of those places is the Spitzkoppe national park in Namibia. Many rounded rocky structures in the large park and no big city so far around make this place absolutely amazing for gazing the stars. As for that, I spent a night time under tempting arch with only reason – to seek the morning „beauty“ planet Venus. Brightest morning object of 23rd September 2015 was such bright in the dark nature, that it wasn’t a big problem to see my own shadow produced by the shine of the planet. Except that, just over the rocky bridge there was tensed the winter Milky Way with bright purple emission nebulae of Vela or Orion. The Magellanic clouds, two isolated starry islands, were majestic addition to the whole view… More info and the image in higher dimension:

A rocky field,
we couldn't get rid of the clouds, we travelled more than 150kms and finally found some not too good weather conditions but we where able to see the stars after a week of crappy weather, the Souther pole looks pretty high from -43 latitude.
Next to Laguna La Amarga, on a small town called Sierra Chata, there was this old abandoned rock stractor company, the owner was lawsuited by an injured employee, the company was shut after that, we asked the owner to let us in and check it around, there was some beautiful animals even if it looks like a ghost creepy place. I had no chance to image the sky because of the weather conditions for almost a week or so, this was the first semi clear night sky in more than a week, even if the sky was most of it clear, I couln´t get the chance to image the Milky Way in its all glory, laying behind the clouds, almost settling, the light was passing through the clouds. Anyway, since it was my first clear night, I builded this pano, because I also liked the rocky scenario, it looks like from another world. The Large Magellanic Cloud, Canopus from Carinae, The Small Magellanic Cloud next to Archernar, takes the show away, even if we can see a violet cast around the Crux and the amazing Airglow green cast in the sky, the rest of yellowish belongs to the sucky light pollution from far towns.

IC 5332 The Corsage Galaxy
Posted: Wed Oct 21, 2015 10:09 am
by strongmanmike
IC 5332 is a somewhat tenuous spiral galaxy with a very low surface brightness
of just 23.8 mag/squ arc sec, making it a challenging target with elusive features
that are hard to reveal well. The tight symmetrical spiral inner arms develop into
more irregular outer arms with many HII regions spread across the galactic disc.
