Search does not work
Search does not work
After entering a search string into the window, "return' or 'enter' does nothing. I am using a Mac, but that should not matter.

Is it the APOD Search or the Asterisk* Search that you are asking about?
The "Enter" key on my old laptop pc works for both, so (beyond suggesting you try rebooting your Mac) I'm no further help in any case.
The Asterisk* Search link above might take you to a different (new or completed Search) page, but for me the "Enter" key works there just as it does for the Search box at the top of the Asterisk* forum pages.
