In the explanation to this APOD it states the frame shows part of "solar active region 10380 that crossed the Sun in 2004 June". The "above" and "above frame" in the explanation are links to the same official LMSAL press release in which it states the image was taken on June 16 2003. Confusingly though the release is dated 28 July 2004.

I would be grateful to know if active region 10380 crossed the Sun in 2003 or 2004. I have done some searching, but the results are still confusing as to which year it was as some state 2003 and others 2004.

Thanks for any help.

It would appear that the July 2004 release of a June 16 photo caused a confusion that the photo was only 1 month old rather that 13 months.

Thanks for your respone neufer, which is much appreciated. The various dates relating to the APOD did confuse me, but that's easily done!

What a beautiful image. I have seen it before in b & w and stumbled across it tonight.

FWIW, the date given may be incorrect as this image was reportedly taken on June 16, 2003 in the blue wing of H-alpha. [Per Livingston and Bhatnagar's Fundamentals of Solar Astronomy (pg. 149)]
