Milky Way's black hole seen in new detail
By Ron Cowen
September 27th, 2008; Vol.174 #7

A closer look at a unique feature in the galaxy’s center suggests outlines of the black hole’s event horizon.

GALAXY PORTRAIT. An array of radio telescopes allowed the closest look yet at the Milky Way’s center, which may appear as it does in this illustration. Yellow and red depict radio emissions from Sagittarius A*, which appears to be located off-center from the black hole that is thought to reside at the galaxy’s center.

G'day from the land of ozzzzzzz

The portrait is an artists movie image.

Have a look at these.

I was looking for another image of the centre that showed jets. I find it I will post it.

Bystander link aint about the picture but about the new data coming in. The final result will be interesting. First analyse of an area close to the event horizon of the giant black hole in the center of our galaxy. And look at what is coming.

( As larger numbers of radio telescopes are linked and their sensitivity increased, “the distorted world at the edge of a black hole will literally come into focus,” )

That is what is interesting. We are closer to see what is happening near an event horizon has never before. :) It is more interesting then just theory. It always reveal something new. Lets see!

G'day Down

I fully agree with you.

Shall we see a Dark star or a glowing star?

We might see what happen near the event horizon of a black hole.

G'day Doum

No one has ever seen an event horizon and some do not event think it exists.

Its going to be quite interesting: To see or not to see that is the question.

The closer they get, the only thing that they will see is probably jets. The Black hole and the probable event horizon are too small and being 25,000 light years away is a great ask.

Hi harry

I did not say "we will see the event horizon". I said "we might see near an event horizon". Nuance. So seeing near an event isnt seeing an event, it is seeing the effect a near event horizon of a black hole look like. Since we are not there yet lets wait and see.

What is the blackhole's co-ordanates?
