It would be nice, but as the recent "Astronomy Pictures of the Year" showed, it'd be tough to narrow it down to just twelve images. *Of course, that would just mean that there would be plenty of images for each year!

bystander, your link is great! I usually get the "Celestial Wonders" calendar from Sky & Telescope, but they didn't seem to be offering it this year, and I had to settle for an astronomy-themed one I found. (It's not bad, but definitely different.) But I'm going to save that link you included and check it again when it comes time for me to get a calendar for 2009 - The Year of Astronomy!

I would do a daily calendar with separate themed images for each day of the month and one large monthly themed image for the main.

Actually there is a 2008 daily calendar featuring APOD images. Since it is a commercial product that costs real money, we can't advertise it on a public web site, but perhaps those interested enough can find it (a challenge?).

There's this internal 2008 NASA "Healthier You" calendar. I have no idea whether you can buy one; I have a photo in it (Luna - Miss March) so they sent me several for free. Note that I am not getting any money whatsoever for this.

I ran across another, completely different cover image for what sounds like the same calendar. Perhaps the publisher's marketing process was done before the actual cover on the thing was chosen.

You're probably right considering that cover says 365 days and 2008 is a leap year.

So now I'm wondering about the images included in this calendar that NoelC and bystander referred to: are they all the images from 2007? Or even years prior to that? Or are they going to be what we see here on APoD proper this year? And if so, should we go ahead and buy it anyway?

Sorry, couldn't help it...... Just kidding, I'm sure it'd be worth it.

But it does seem that the one linked to in both of their posts could be the most likely, as it says in the cover image, it's "Based on the website' Astronomy Picture of the Day'". So, has anyone ordered it/gotten a look at it?

RJN, do you wish to answer this?

I know on CFHT's Hawaiian Starlight, the image of the month is the image for that month on the previous year's calendar. This month's image of the month is the image for January on the 2007 calendar.

I think they would need to be 2007 images. It would be interesting though, to be able to look ahead at your calendar and see what images are going to be produced and published this year.

The images are the "Best of APOD" for APOD's (first) 12 years. Excepting that this time we chose almost exclusively public domain images from the APOD books. The calendar looks pretty cool in my biased opinion, although the images are not as glossy and high-res as in the APOD books. - RJN

For anyone interested:

I kept forgetting to come back here and post, but I received my calendar and it's pretty cool! Although, it took some getting used to since it's much smaller in size than the images I see on the computer screen! And it won't replace the APoD site for me either, as I especially like clicking the links in the descriptions at the site and learning, learning, learning.
*I wasn't crazy about the fact that the description for 14 Jan had a rather obvious error in it: it was this image of Saturn:

but stated that Saturn was "... the largest planet in the solar system...". I always thought that honor went to Jupiter..? Oh well, you learn something new everyday. Plus, we all know that there are errors found in some of the descriptions here, as well.

But overall, nice calendar so far, and it makes a nice desk accessory!
