A Milky Way Band - galactic center (APOD 30 Sep 2007)

I have been visiting APOD for several years. I finally have a question. Today's picture shows the panarama of the Milkyway as seen from Earth. I have always wondered in which direction is our galactic center?

The galactic center is towards the constellations of sagittarius and scorpius.

Up here in Iowa, at 42 degrees north, the galactic center is only visible to the south during the summer.

In the southern hemisphere, it would be visible all year long.

And by the way, I have a lovely panorama hanging on my wall of the 360 degrees of the milky way!!!

This image only has 90 degrees of the milky way.

In today's APOD, the galactic center would be on the far right of the picture.

Thank you rigelan and case.
Since I was born on the cusp between sagittarius and scorpius maybe there's a "deeper" meaning to my questioning where it was.
