Is it art? Apollo 12 self-portrait
Is it art? If you think Quantum physics is hard to understand, just try reading art critics on the question, “is it art.”
Black and white looks good on the photo, and imbues it with artistic credibility--or is it affectation? Stop me, please. I spent a year in art school and I’ve never been the same.
Is it art? Hmm, it’s inspiring, it’s astounding, I love it. Who cares if it’s art or not?

Photos as art - I think so but feel guilty
This is a great question since I feel that taking great pictures is very hard especially if you want them to look and feel like art. My art is having that photo "eye" that knows what looks good, etc. But then again, when you are done all you did was capture what was already there, you just did a great job of moving it through a camera to paper or computer. I feel guilty since you see the art of nature or whatever image, and then feel you should capture that art and show others that aren't there, so you take a picture
As an example, here are picture I took out my window Mt Rainier: http://rainiermoon.blogspot.com/ The moon shots are nice - but all I did was get the right position and timing and camera to capture that. So the art is my capturing and making that scene available.
Thanks for providing the great photos/art on the astronomy site! I check it out every day.
