I saw those in Brazil quite a few times. We had to land really quick when one of those appeared.

These occur regularly on the Australian Gulf of Carpentaria, where thye are called the Morning Glory. Those crazy Aussies take switch back rides on them, in microlights! See: http://home.iprimus.com.au/budmartin/fr ... 0Glory.htm
