NGC 1672 (APOD 18 Apr 2007)

Could someone please explain to me why this is a "barred" spiral? I've seen pictures of galaxies with pronounced bars, but I'm having difficulty seeing the "bar" in this one. Thanks.

This is what I think of as a Barred Spiral galaxy

NGC 1672 looks more like an elongated regular spiral

Actually, I think we're all (myself included) confusing the dust lanes for the bar of stars. Looking at the APOD again, the two most prominent arms seem to extend into the galactic center in a slightly brighter bar that runs from the 7 O'clock to 2 O'clock angles. However, the dark, reddish dust lanes don't seem to follow.

In contrast, in NGC 1300 you posted a link to, they do.
