Tommorow's APOD (Deep Impact)

Well, today's say we might have "3 seconds before" images (unless I'm misinterpreting what it says). However, deep impact official server has published only

6 minutes

and

30 seconds

images. Am I looking in the wrong place?

I mean in

PIA02125.MOV you can see more frames than that. But where are those stills?

I downloaded the 121530main_its_approach_x4.mov which shows a sequence from nothing in sight to seconds before impact, it's very impressive of course, but it would also be useful to know the time between frames so that a more accurate idea of the approach speed can be envisaged.

Approach and impact speed: 10.2 km/s. The times of the frames are listed with the individual images. Click on them at

Pretty pictures are all very well, but when do we get the spectrograph data? When do we find out what the comet consists of?

Same page I am talking about. They changed things, but stills are still not there. Image entitled "Almost There" now has another thumbnail

but there's still wrong image when you click it - it doesn't differ much from

The alt text on that image says "sixty seconds to impact". I don't know how many people rely on the alt text though; it's supposed to be for people who can't see the image. Why would you be interested in the site if you can't see the image?

You haven't read what I've said about that image, so do it.
