Tommorow's APOD (Deep Impact)
Tommorow's APOD (Deep Impact)
Well, today's say we might have "3 seconds before" images (unless I'm misinterpreting what it says). However, deep impact official server has published only
6 minutes
and
30 seconds
images. Am I looking in the wrong place?

I mean in PIA02125.MOV you can see more frames than that. But where are those stills?
Tommorow's APOD (Deep Impact)
Approach and impact speed: 10.2 km/s. The times of the frames are listed with the individual images. Click on them at

Pretty pictures are all very well, but when do we get the spectrograph data? When do we find out what the comet consists of?

Same page I am talking about. They changed things, but stills are still not there. Image entitled "Almost There" now has another thumbnail
but there's still wrong image when you click it - it doesn't differ much from

They have now added some of that, too.cherlin wrote:Pretty pictures are all very well, but when do we get the spectrograph data? When do we find out what the comet consists of?

As to the picture timing:
Impactor Eyes Comet Target 7:44 Universal Time, July 3, 2005. This image was taken 1 hour and 37 minutes after the impactor was released from the flyby craft
Blinded by the Jets 30 minutes
Face-to-Face With a Comet Six minutes to impact
Hit Me With Your Best Shot 5 minutes
So Close You Can Almost Touch It 90 seconds
Before the Crash sixty seconds
Untouched Tempel 30 seconds
Almost There a few seconds
Re: Deep Impact Timing
The alt text on that image says "sixty seconds to impact". I don't know how many people rely on the alt text though; it's supposed to be for people who can't see the image. Why would you be interested in the site if you can't see the image?cherlin wrote: Face-to-Face With a Comet Six minutes to impact

Re: Deep Impact Timing
You haven't read what I've said about that image, so do it. I want large stills of last frames of this animation: http://217.76.193.147/phpBB2/images/p.avi (152 KB, requires DivX 4+; or you may refer to quick time link I've posted above, but there are more frames, plus they are duplicated - 488.9 KB).cherlin wrote:Almost There a few seconds
