Re: Submissions: 2024 November
It is one of the images ( The Witch Head Nebula) that has brought me the most satisfaction, as photographing reflection nebulae from a city seemed like an impossible idea, despite the light pollution filters available today. This session was taken from a fifth-floor balcony in my city, Montcada i Reixac, near Barcelona (Catalonia), in a Bortle 8/9 zone with no visibility to the North, without Polaris, using drift alignment. I needed several sessions and many captures, but I couldn’t be happier with the result. It still feels unbelievable to me.
Thinking about what we are gradually losing in cities, and realizing that it shouldn't be a privilege but a right and a heritage not only of humanity but of all the inhabitants of our planet—fauna and flora—and seeing that, despite everything, it is still possible
Date and location the images was taken: 7/01,08/01,09/01/and 10/01/24.
Equipment used: Asi294 mc pro, Antlia triband RGB, HEQ-5 & Refractor Skywacher 72/420 Evostar 72 ED.
Exposure times, Gain: 52x300” Gain 120, 50x120" Gain120
Software used during capture/processing; DSS, Pixinsight, Adobe Lightroom.

Re: Submissions: 2024 November
IC 1805 is a nebula located 7,500 light-years away in the constellation Cassiopeia. Its reddish appearance comes from gases ionized by the massive young stars of the Melotte 15 cluster. It is a region where many stars are still forming today.
IC 1848, the Soul Nebula, is located 7,500 light-years away in the constellation Cassiopeia. It is illuminated by young stars that ionize the surrounding gases, giving it its reddish hue. The nebula features structures known as "pillars of creation," where new stars are formed from clouds of gas and dust.

The Perseus double cluster in hydrogen clouds
A pair of very bright open clusters, visible in the constellation of Perseus.
In this version with additional integration with H-Alpha filter, to capture the huge nebular complex of ionized hydrogen that is present in this region of the sky, albeit very weakly.

This is a 9-panel mosaic, done over 2 months. I have been toying with expanding it to include the soul nebula. My goal was at least 20 x 300s per filter for each panel, some I got more, especially the Oiii. I stacked and did the initial processing in AstroPixel Processor, and then finished it in PhotoShop.

Living and Dying in Cygnus - NGC 6888 + Soap Bubble Nebula, PN G75.5+1.7
Copyright: Hamza Ilyas
Location: London, UK
I am reminded of the multitude of myths across many ancient cultures noting the origin of Cygnus. Whichever one you choose, it likely involves some individual(s) narrowly escaping death, only to be immortalised in the heavens above. Interestingly, at least in some sense, the same will occur to the powerful but dying star living at the heart of Caldwell 27. This death will be deferred for at least hundreds of thousands of years - before redistributing its stellar material in a glorious end, only to be reborn in new entities to come.

This stunning barred spiral galaxy, also known as M83, lies 15 million light-years away in the constellation Hydra. It’s one of the closest and brightest barred spiral galaxies in our sky, known for its vibrant star formation and chaotic supernova remnants scattered throughout its arms.
Bringing this galaxy to life with a 30yo scope (Celestron Ultima 9-1/4) felt like connecting the old and new. This telescope, paired with modern technology, still manages to reveal the breathtaking beauty of the cosmos. There’s something magical about capturing these distant wonders with gear that has seen so many skies over the decades.
Integration Time: 21h 15min using HaLRGB filters

The Seattle Space Needle is one of the most photographed and recognized structures in the world. It was built as a cultural centerpiece for the 1962 World’s Fair, whose theme was “The Age of Space.” At 605 feet tall, the landmark was constructed to symbolize humanity’s Space Age aspirations.
The waxing crescent phase occurs when the moon moves around Earth, and the side of the moon that faces us becomes more illuminated by direct sunlight. This moon alignment of the Waxing Crescent moon (15.1%) slightly appears over the Seattle Space Needle.
