Alternative to apod.nasa.gov

Post by tgx » Tue Nov 19, 2024 4:38 am

Hello,

I am working on a side project of mine, it's a sleek web alternative to apod.nasa.gov for viewing APODs and i would love to get some feedback.

What do you think of the current look and feel? What features do you think it's missing? Etc.. Any feedback is well appreciated.

Nice job! Well, it could include the hyperlinks featured on the main APOD website.

You're missing the credits to the people who bring you APOD each day. A surprising amount of work goes into each day's APOD, and the people who do that work and enable it to carry on every day for nearly 30 years should be credited.

Hello,

Originally, the site lacked a button that directed users to view the APOD on its original site, but it has consistently credited the authors in the "About This Website" popup. I have since updated the site to include a quickly accessible button that takes you to the original APOD, and have now revised the "About This Website" text to provide better acknowledgment of the authors.

Thanks for pointing this out! :)

It's a cool site and it looks very professional, as though you've put into it a lot of thought and effort.

If you are inviting suggestions, perhaps a linkie to APoD's calender page in the cute little toolbox? Or a linkie to other sites such as the Earth picture of the day?

Thank you and have a lovely Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

Thank you for your kind words and suggestions! This is actually my first time hearing about EPOD, and I've always wanted to integrate an APOD calendar directly into the site, so your suggestion is timely. I will definitely look into it when I have a chance.

Wishing a happy holiday and new year back at ya!

EPOD does wonderful images sometimes but there are others, too. I don't know if there is a page with a list of "Images Of The Day" but there may be. Or, if you have sufficent enthusiam, energy and time ...? :)

Thank you.

Actually, a website which displays all the "Picture of the Day" science pictures would be awesome. You'd be able to consume all the content from one place! However, the only ones I'm aware of are:

Astronomy Picture of The Day
NASA Earth Observatory Image of The Day
Earth Picture of The Day (Thanks to you! :P )
Copernicus Image of The Day

Non-daily ones:

ESA/Hubble Picture of The Week
ESA/Webb Picture of The Month

Do you know of any others, and would you use a site like this if it existed?
