Here is a new image of Mars made this 24th October 2020

This image has been made at UT21:17 with C2PU 1meter Cassegrain telescope located at Calern Plateau (N +43°45’ E +006° 55’).

This image has a resolution going beyond that previously made with this telescope, and shows particularly Valles Marineris with a lot of details I personally have never seen on pictures taken from the ground.

PHILOLAUS CRATER

Impact crater located to the north, 73 km in diameter and 3.4 km deep.
It has high walls and features contour formations or steps (terraces). It has uneven ground and two symmetrically separated mountains. It has an irregular border, showing signs of collapse.

Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer + Sky-Watcher Evostar 72ED + field flattener + Nikon D610 (ISO200 & 74x131s). Pre- and post- processed in Siril. Stacked 67 out of 74 frames. Post-processing in RawTherapee, then in GIMP and final one again in RawTherapee. The last touch - adding back in the meteor done in GIMP.

Just in time for Halloween...

This is a target I have been hoping to process for a while and have always been mesmerized by the intricate filaments and details in the SHO data I've seen. For this version I wanted to accentuate those details while keeping the rich star field and more subtle details around the edges. Overall my goal was to communicate both the turbulent nature of the nebula while nodding to its spooky, hairy namesake.

Mikel and Cèdric, you blew me away with this image! The bar of the LMC is so pearly and translucent, and the Tarantula and the surrounding nebulosities are so boldly in-you-face "thick", "massive" and pink! It is as if the "boiling and churning" Tarantula region was just bursting and exploding out of the almost immaterial bar of the LMC!
