Re: Submissions: 2020 July
Spectacular NLC-s undulated yesterday at dawn in NE direction above Budapest, Hungary. I went out to observe the comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) but the large complex of NLC catched my eyes as well. The rolling waves of blue icy clouds looked like an electric field around the orangish tail of the icy comet, this combination was the most beautiful phenomena in my life.

From Southern Cross to Carina nebula (25 panels mosaic)
Full zoomable version (recommended) : https://www.easyzoom.com/image/207866
Full version (125mo !) : https://cdn.astrobin.com/thumbs/CkeXLel ... XURFLk.jpg
"Light" 25% version : https://cdn.astrobin.com/thumbs/WwfuRqx ... gn6cSV.jpg
I am happy to share with you this image that kept me busy for more than 3 months, both for acquisitions and processing.
This image is a mosaic of 25 tiles, made over 3 months and 24 nights between April and June 2020, with a Nikon 200mm f/2 and a FLIProline 16200 CCD (Chilescope's "VST").
It presents a particularly rich region of the southern sky of 300 degrees square: the iconic Southern Cross in the Milky Way, and some beautiful jewels scattered in the constellations of Crux, Centaurus, Carina, Vela and Musca : emission nebulae, clusters, dark nebulae...
Among the most notable objects, we can find the Carina nebulae, the Chicken run, the Statue of Liberty, the Coalsack Nebula, but also beautiful open clusters such as the jewel box, the Pincushion Cluster, the southern Pleiades, the Pearl cluster, etc.
This image is composed of 25 tiles, each composed of 3 RGB layers + Ha and OIII layers for the nebulosity areas. I have also added some more detailed images previously made for nebulae.
In total, there are thus :
- 820 raw images for the RGB (180s), Ha and OIII (600s) layers;
- 75 stacked images for the RGB layers (25 tiles per color) + 4 Ha and OIII images (on the nebulosity areas);
- 50 hours of exposure.
All the preprocessing and processing was done with Pixinsight.
The assembly of the mosaic was done with Astro Pixel Processor.
The final corrections (contrast, colors, etc.) were made with Photoshop.
I strongly recommend you to view this image in "full" zoomable version in order to really appreciate it! (link above)
More information about this project and this image, as well as about the 20 main visible objects, on my personal website : https://millenniumphoton.com/le-projet-croix-du-sud/
I hope you will enjoy looking at this image!

Comet Neowise Over Stonehenge by Mathew Browne, on Flickr
Just a few hours ago I saw this incredible sight - Stonehenge with the comet Neowise above and noctilucent clouds rippling behind. Worth the 5 hour roundtrip to capture this once in a lifetime image.

Re: Submissions: 2020 July
Comet Neowise C2020 F3 from the crystal clear sky of Rodokipos Halkidiki Greece as it appeared today 11/07/2020 at 01:20 UT. The comet is getting very bright and it barely fits into the frame of a full sensor camera with a 200mm lens as shown in this image that was created by combining 30 exposures of 20sec in order to decrease the noise and show the ion tail of the comet. I've made the image with a full-frame camera and a 200mm lens set at f/2.8 capturing 20sec sub-exposures that were combined to avoid the noise and show the ion tail of the comet which is faint but visible.
I am an amateur astronomer for 20+ years but I have never seen such an impressive view from the northern hemisphere since I missed Hale Bopp astronomically at least. I couldn't hide my joy alone in the darkness when I realised from the rising tail of the comet, how big and bright it would be! I am very thankful that we are having such an interesting astronomical target to follow this summer and who knows how it will evolve but I like the idea that the whole planet is imaging this target now sharing their own experiences!

Since the comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) became visible, we have had clouds every night with a clear night forecasted for early July 11. After a careful planification using Photopills and Stellarium, the sky delivered, not only removing the clouds but giving us some of the brightest noctilucent clouds. What a show!

Comet Neowise meets Meteora!
After the image from Halkidiki I travelled for about three hours in the unique location of Meteora to view and capture the rare meeting of the comet with the amazing location of Meteora in Kalambaka Greece. It is an amazing experience to be able and see the comet on different locations and share them with other observers and friends of astronomy as a synchronized team of comet hunters! The view of the comet changes from the weather each day since the humidity plays a big role in the transparency of the sky and how the tail can be seen.
The image was made with a 70-200mm zoom lens set at 150mm since my distance from the site was the most distant that I could find after hours of searching in the wilderness where one can find snakes, bears and wolfs...
It is a stacked image with the camera/lens mounted on a star tracker with the drive off for the first image that was used for the landscape and then on to track the comet but on half speed and this is why there are trails on the stars. I was afraid that I would lose a lot of field if I tracked at 100%.
Humidity was very high and the equipment was wet during the shooting plus the sky wasn't as transparent and this impacted the view of the comet's tail.
