Strawberry moon of June

Image Description: This picture has been taken in Sampieri, a little village in the southern coast of Sicily. In the image, I captured the rising of the so-called "strawberry moon", the full moon of June. This full moon is noteworthy also because it imperfectly aligns with the Sun and the Earth producing the astronomical event called penumbral lunar eclipse. At the same time in the picture we can see the "Belt of Venus", a band which separates light from shadow in the atmosphere. Light is originating from the sun that was setting behind me and the dark band is the shadow of the earth.
At last, the building is an ancient brick factory, an industrial archeology monument that has been declared a World Heritage Site from UNESCO.

Surface of Venus: Observation of IR glow.
Normally the surface of Venus is completely hidden by thick clouds of sulphuric acid. The surface pressure is around 92 bar (1334 psi) and its temperature at 460 °C (860 °F). At this high temperature the surface glows and emitts infrared radiation. In the nineties it was found that there is a small spectral window in the infrared region around 1010 nm were radiation may pass the thick atmosphere and the clouds. So we speak of glowing light from the Venus itself and not reflected sunlight. To see this dimm glow it is necessary to observe the night side of Venus with a narrowband filter at 1010 nm. There are only rare occasions a few weeks before and after lower conjunction when the night side of Venus is sufficiently well visible.
The upper row of the picture shows images taken on May 7, 2020. On the left side there is a "normal" image of Venus taken with short exposure time. So the bright sunlit crescent of Venus is visible.
The middle image shows Venus with heavily overexposure of the crescent - the glow of Venus is visible on the dark side. The dark structures therein are highlands of Venus. These are cooler than the lowlands and emit less radiation. The right image shows a Venus surface simulation (with WinJUPOS) with some annotations - verifing the dark spots in the middle image as true surface structures of Venus.
The middle row and lower row of the picture show analogeous images taken on May 15 and May 18. The dark structures are well reproduced and rotate slowly in the right direction.

Strawberry Moon penumbral eclipse
https://stefanoderosa.com/
Copyright: Stefano De Rosa please find above a yesterday evening (June 5th) picture, showing the "Strawberry Moon" rising behind the Basilica of Superga (sitting on a hill in the surroundings of Turin, Italy) during the maximum of the penumbral lunar eclipse that can be noted in the faint dark area on the bottom right of our natural satellite. I took the telephoto from some 10 km away from the Basilica.

Brocchi's cluster

Brocchi's Cluster is a random grouping of stars located in the constellation Vulpecula near the border with Sagitta. The members of the star cluster form an asterism which has given rise to its name as the Coathanger.

Stargate 2020

First of the season, my first pano, first galactic arch. This is the shot I was dreaming for during all lockdown period long here in Italy. First time I saw the Albanian cities lights lighting up the sky, making visible their mountains in the night too. The closing period helps to make the sky very clear and the stars above us confirm it.On the way to home, in the first light of dawn, I was sure that something went wrong, but as soon I saw the pano correctly done I was very excited! A freedom sensation that we really need, dreamed for 70 days at home.Hope you enjoy it.

Strawberry Moon: penumbrual eclipse
The Moon rises above the plain and Sacra of San Michele (tha place that inspired the novel "The name of the rose" by Umberto Eco) just before the eclipse maximum.

Watch Dogs

A 360-degree panorama captured in Italy, in a beautiful and iconic location (The Lady Rose Castle) Rocca Calascio, fortune wanted there to be a solar halo with the paraselene moon (lunar dogs)

We had gone up there with the intention of photographing the Milky Way, I never thought I could photograph the moon halo with even the moon dogs, the paraselene...

After leaving the tent for a cigarette I realized that the situation was very interesting, actually, the moon had the halo but there were still no reflections of ice crystals on the clouds.

After half an hour of taking pictures, finally the magic... I managed to capture a beautiful scene, which I don't think I'll ever see again.

"First of All"

a 360-degree panorama with:

Jupiter (very bright to the right of the black arms of the Galaxy with the yellow Antares)
Saturn (to the left of the purple Lagoon Nebula)
Mars (reddish to the left of Saturn, just outside the Milky Way)
On the right of the image (behind the shooting point) The Ursa Mayor

The veils have begun to form from the North, frightened I start my shots chased through the sky, I start from the core just to save the saveable, half an hour later, all covered, just enough time to realize this first Milky Way and 360° Panoramic of the scene, accompanied by the slow rhythm of the lighthouse, which illuminated me all the foreground.

8 shots for the landscape, 8 shots for the sky tracked
Canon 5d Mark 4 with the new Samyang 12mm 2.8 Fisheye toy
Size = 15309 x 7857 = 120 megapixels

Rho Ophiuchi

Ok folks...Finally got a break with some decent weather conditions to go back and finish Rho Ophiuchi. Had to to do the dance around the moon still...but managed.
Was using the Canon EOS 7D Mark II and the Canon 70 to 200 zoom F2.8 lens which offers a really remarkable FOV.....
Overall pleased with the result but never have met that perfect image yet!...lol

Hope y'all enjoy

Rho Ophiuchi (ρ Ophiuchi) is a multiple star system in the constellation Ophiuchus. The central system has an apparent magnitude of 4.63. Based on the central system's parallax of 9.03 mas, it is located about 360 light-years (110 parsecs) away. The other stars in the system are slightly farther away.
Rho Ophiuchi is the namesake of the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex. It is a nebula of gas and dust, which the Rho Ophiuchi system is embedded in. It is one of the easiest star forming regions to observe, as it is one of the nearest, and it is visible from both hemispheres.
The interstellar extinction (AV) of Rho Ophiuchi is measured to be 1.45 magnitudes, meaning the dust and gas in front of Rho Ophiuchi absorbs light from the system, making it appear 1.45 magnitudes …

NEPTUNE AND TRITON

First time I post Neptune here, because a planet is difficult to process, besides that it does not present sharp details during the capture.
Much is discussed about the minimal details present in some captures, or whether they are just artifacts or are real. For me, they are just artifacts that are generated by excess processing.
I tried to rotate with 15 videos through winjoups, without pulling the layers too much, but did not present any details, I did this test several nights in a row.
Here the image I consider the best I had, I did the shred processing separately.
I made an image containing both, and the reference in winjupos, both in the bottom corner.
Neptune is like that, without many details but a beautiful icy planet 🙂

I love that picture, particularly the colors of Neptune and Triton which I find very believable.

But in the small inset the color of Neptune looks much greener. Why is that?
