2017 Total Solar Eclipse C2 with Corona and Shadow Band

During the 2nd contact of the Total Solar Eclipse, a Corona (atmospheric optics with the rainbow colour) appeared around the Diamond Ring, with Shadow Bands casting within the corona (the stripes on both sides of the Corona).
A thin layer of cloud in between the sun and ground is believed to have allowed the projection of the Corona and Shadow Band.

That's a gorgeous image. The globular is beautifully resolved, and the star colors are subtle and delicious. The overall color balance is just slightly blue, which I don't mind, of course. The IFN is an added bonus.

This is a delightful image. There are two things about it that I'm particularly fond of.

At bottom left of your image, we find the NGC 6726 site of star formation in Corona Australis, and the globular cluster NGC 6723 "above" it. It is delightful to see where this often-photographed clash of the young and the old is actually located in the sky in a really wide-angle picture, and to see how big (or rather small) this well-known bit of cosmic drama is compared with other well-known sights in the southern sky.

The other thing that caught my eye was, literally, an eye. An eye in the sky, that is. More precisely, an eye in the Teapot of Sagittarius, close to the lid of the Teapot. Made of dust, the Eye of Sagittarius appears to peer at φ Sagittarius and Sigma Sagittarius, Nunki.

Heart of the Scorpion
Here is one of the most glorious spectacles of the sky- the region near Antares, Rho Ophiuchi and beyond:

This is a 3 frame mosaic because I guess I could not stop but the image below is only the bottom. It is such a long image that I highlight the region around Antares and Rho Ophiuchi- but the full image is at the link above (I tried to attach it below). Be certain to click on each of the images to see a larger view. Of course, I did try to time this with the celebratory nature of these nights here in the US when our fireworks mirror the stellarworks far beyond.

I was shooting the milky way at Capo Spartivento, south Sardinia, but there was a thunderstorm coming from africa starting with lightning strikes every 2 minutes. What a fantastic lucky night to shoot the Milky Way with lightning.
