Is anyone traveling for the eclipse?
Is anyone traveling for the eclipse?
Just curious where Asteriskians might be, if traveling, for this event. I'm leaving for Oregon tomorrow; my son is flying from Massachusetts to meet me there to join me in gridlock. Surely others are also heading into totality, and some of you probably don't have to because you live in the zone (lucky dogs!).

Re: Is anyone traveling for the eclipse?
I drove up to Casper this morning. About a six hour drive. Gave a talk this afternoon at the Astronomical League conference, which I'll hang around tomorrow and then decide where to go for the eclipse itself. I'm already on the centerline, so at this point it's just about my best chance for dodging clouds and hopefully finding a photogenic horizon for my wide angle images.owlice wrote:Just curious where Asteriskians might be, if traveling, for this event. My plan was to head back to Colorado Monday afternoon, but it seems like a few hundred thousand other people might be doing the same thing. So I'll either hang out for another day in Wyoming, or drive back down on little backroads.

In case anyone is interested...
Tora Greve, who I mentioned in a previous post, will be in Salem, Oregon, for the eclipse, in the company of, among others, Jay Pasachoff, professor of astronomy at Western University.
At least that's what I a Swedish ladies' magazine told me!

Some friends of ours have a nice spot on Lake Cascade about a hundred miles north of Boise.
The weather was glorious and the event was short but sweet.

I did, to Western KY, and it was the most amazing thing I've ever seen:
Forget the box, just get outside.

Ann, small correction: Pasachoff is at Williams College in Massachusetts. (He planted the idea of going to Salem, where the weather was perfectly glorious!, in my head. Though the weather was wonderful, the traffic was not!!!!!)Ann wrote:In case anyone is interested...

I've finished my first round of image processing and have posted solar eclipse photos and videos, as well as something of my imaging adventure, at http://www.cloudbait.com/gallery/solar/ ... lipse.html.

I was hoping to hear how it was supposed to be done. Very tantalizing insight into the process and it answered a previous question. Of course it does takes practice which the eclipse supplied. I didn't hear how much traffic disruption occurred in the East. We had our fair share but it wasn't the disaster that might have taken place. Oregon was probably much worse. It does make me wonder what might have happened if had taken place on Sunday. Funny that it did on "Moonday".

Some images of rental camera equipment damaged during the event. Kind of painful to look at.
