Partial lunar eclipse at Lake Balaton
Copyright: Monika Landy-Gyebnar
Sailboats were crossing the lake as it was a windy evening I only had to wait (and hope for) the right moment to capture the eclipsed Moon and a boat.
Moon already rose from the haze at the horizon some minutes before the greatest phase of the eclipse so it was beautiful red with the "missing" part sharing the bluish haze of the sky. Later as it climbed higher the shadow became more distinct - but of course it was already decreasing in its size. Although the eclipse was short from Hungary it was a great experience! Many people who walked at the lakeside came to me to check the image of the Moon on the display of my camera and many of them already knew about the eclipse. It was also great to see some fellow photographers who also captured these rare moments of celestial beauty.

Lunar Eclipse over Acropolis Athens
We had a magnificent view of the partial Lunar Eclipse in Acropolis. During the highest touristic season, thousands of tourists flooded the nearby streets to watch this spectacular Moonrise as it would be eclipsed. I had to find a rooftop restaurant and get there very early in order to be able and find the "right" spot from where I calculated that I could capture the event the way it is shawn in this time image as it is a combination of the phases of the eclipse as the Moon was rising high in the sky.
I still wonder by the fact that its so easy for as to look at a lunar eclipse and understand Earths circular shape but it was so hard for ancient civilisations to grasp the idea at the time but I guess its like Galileo said: The truth is easy to understand, once it's being discovered!

Eclipsed moon rises through the ancient Greek temple of Poseidon at Sounion, Greece.
Today all major archaeological sites in Greece are open to the public, to enjoy the full moon. The moon rose at the beginning of a partial lunar eclipse, so the sight was even more breathtaking.

Partially eclipsed Moon
https://stefanoderosa.com/
Copyright: Stefano De Rosa Please find above three images of the partially eclipsed Moon taken after sunset on August 7, 2017 from the beach of Ginepro (gps coordinates: 42.722079, 10.434136), in the east coast of Isola d’Elba (Elba Island).
Elba is a Mediterranean island in Tuscany, located some 10 kilometres from the coastal town of Piombino and is worldwide famous as there Emperor Napoleon was exiled after his forced abdication in 1814.
The scenario was very nice especially when some of my friends started diving into the moonlight!
Best regards
Stefano

Partial lunar eclipse rising above French Alps
Credits: Adrien Mauduit
On Monday 7th of August 2017, a partial lunar eclipse was visible at moonrise (19:50 UTC) local before the shadow shrank into the penumbral area, and eventually faded. I went up the Jura mountain in France to have a clear view of the full moon rising over the Alps. As cumulus and cumulonimbus were approaching from the west, I only had a 10 minute window to peek at the beautiful and wedged orange disc rise over the snowy peaks of the Alps.

Scorpio and Licancabur
The picture was taken from the coast of the partially frozen Green Lagoon (the territory of Bolivia, height 4340m). Its color is due to the content of a large number of chemical elements from the periodic table (including lead and arsenic). In the terrestrial landscape dominates stratovolcano Licancabur (5916m). And in the sky shines Scorpio - one of the most beautiful constellations of the sky. The main star in the constellation Scorpio, his eye, is called Antares, which means "the enemy of Mars". Between the red star supergiant Antares and a small stone ball called Mars, there is very little in common, except that in the terrestrial sky they are slightly similar in color and brightness and often turn out to be next to each other. These places are unearthly not only in the figurative sense of the word, but also completely in a direct sense. The fact is that here is recorded the highest level of ultraviolet radiation around the globe. The level is almost Martian. For a person, the level of UV radiation with index 11 is considered to be extremely dangerous. However, in the vicinity of Licancabur, the instruments fixed the index 26 (and even 43) for a long time. Most likely, this is a one-time phenomenon that occurred as a result of a combination of circumstances, but nevertheless: welcome to Mars!

Re: Submissions: 2017 August
Acropolis the Human Eye and ancient perfection.
This image was made with my zoom setup but this time I wanted to achieve something that i always missed in my images with high dynamic range difference.
I had to do a lot of testing and development to fully grasp the way we perceive light with our eyes and the difference with my specific DSLR camera. I believe that the image shows a very close representation of the real view at the place. Still the specific camera is working on its limits, maybe in the future with a better body I can revisit the place and have more fun!
Finally, meticulous calculations were made so I can be at the spot and capture the Moon as it would rise in the corner of Parthenon. I wouldn't do anything less for this magnificent monument that was built under the highest possible standards.
Two days earlier, as I was wondering at the new Acropolis Museum, I was inspired by the level of perfectionism used by ancient artists and the painstaking work they had to go through so we can admire their work. I thought I need to do something so I can give my respect to them and people can enjoy the view like being there.
