Against The Global LEDing
dariogiannobile.com
Copyright: Dario Giannobile
Description:
After the well known global warming due to CO2, the title of this photo plays with the words to expresse the concept of light pollution induced by LED lamps. It is true that LEDS help enviroment because of their efficiency but the light emitted is much more intensive that old sodium lamps. The space station crew is providing photos showing the impressive impact of LEDS installation with a before-after comparison.
This shot is a metaphor: the crystal sphere represents the planet Earth, the Globe, the LED lamp is the "light pollution" menacing the darkness of the sky. Inside the sphere there is the great castle of Ancient Noto in Sicily. The castle has been illuminated by two orange lights. A star trail has been created shooting directly toward the sphere: 4 hours long, 239 shots plus two shots for lamp's light.
The image is NOT MANIPULATED! the star trail is real within a real sphere!

NGC 4725. Copyright KG Observatory.
While most spiral galaxies, including our own Milky Way, have two or more spiral arms, NGC 4725 has only one. NGC 4725 is over 100 thousand light-years across and lies 41 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices. NGC 4725 is a Seyfert Galaxy, suggesting an active galactic nucleus containing a supermassive black hole.

Using more sophisticated methods (see description of the results from the La Silla Observatory - http://www.astronom.cz/horalek/?p=2351), I was able to re-process my data of the all-night zodiacal light panorama over the Mangaia Island (the Cook Islands) in the end of August 2014. On Sunday May 7th, the Moon will appear very close to the planet Jupiter in the sky. Enjoy the view!!!

THE GOLD MINE Marcellina (Rome) Italy
-----------------------------------------------
The work
Romolo Belvedere is interacting with a site whose historical memory and identity are of great importance to the inhabitans of Marcellina and San Polo dei Cavalieri. In his work “The Gold Mine” with his artistic sensibility he defines the urgency of an individual and collective memory through a shared human experience. Indeed, The Gold Mine is meant as an homage to all the people who worked and died on the site of this blast furnace, part of the former CI.DI. quarry, long abandoned to physical degradation and ungrateful oblivion.
Where there used to be a pile of stones, now there is a gold mine: golden nuggets to remind us of what is not longer there and, at the same time, a suggestion of what there could be. With this somewhat ironic act Romolo Belvedere wants to leave a mark on his home-land.
He points out to us, by marking them, those sites previously marked by his ancestors: silent miners, hard-working labourers who, with their daily labor and toil, devoted their lives to this place.
The street artist Luis Gomez will reinterpret Teodora, a photographic portrait from Romolo Belvedere’s photo essay Le Facce di Pietra - Faces of Stone – (1990). Teodora, a mother and a miner from Marcellina, becomes the symbolic guardian of this place, defending its memory like the Cumaean Sybil.
Brought back to life by Romolo Belvedere, Luis Gomez, with his artistic sensibility, will imprint her forever on the wall of the blast furnace, a celebration of folk history.
Because this work is located inside the Regional Natural Park of Monti Lucretili its historic and natural significance is enhanced. The next step in this work, already in the making, will be The Gold Trail. Some of the stones along the trails that from Marcellina and San Polo lead to Prato Favale will be painted in gold, suggesting the different significations of the park.
The bright tracks left by the artist will reveal the metaphorical treasures hidden in this place that are just waiting to be brought to the attention.
