Okay, these are my favorite pictures from page 2 of the December submissions!

1) KuriousGeorge, that's a nice portrait of M82. I note a very blue star there - it looks like a blue supernova, but I guess not! (I mean - as if no one else would have noticed it - yeah, right...)

2) Again, KuriousGeorge, that's a very impressive portrait of M101! Looks like there is a giant vortex swallowing the whole galaxy, which is swirling and crackling and sparkling with color as it is going down the drain... (No, that is not what's happening, but it looks impressive!)

3) Tim Christensen, you have posted several pictures here this month, and I like them all. I like your RGB palette, your processing and your framing, and the way you contrast light against dark and softness versus sharp details.

4) Tom Masterson, that's a wonderfully colorful Milky Way! Look at Barnard's Arc and the round pink pancake that is the Lambda Orionis Nebula!

5) Manjeet Singh, I like your image. I like the "searchlight" effect of the brilliant Moon.

6) Göran Strand, I love your eloquent "RGB" statement. There is red stuff on your telescope, the sky behind you is bright green, and you are wearing a blue jacket. Perfect!

7) R Bottern, wow, that's some sunrise!

8) Petr Horálek, what a lineup over the Namibian mountains! Everyone was there, the Magellanic Clouds, the Andromeda Galaxy, Sirius and Canopus, Orion and the Pleiades, the California Nebula and the stunning Gum Nebula, the Triangulum Galaxy and Achernar, the Rosette Nebula and the Double Cluster. Take a bow!

9) Ryan Raposo, your Full Moon looks like a dramatic painting from the Romantic period!

10) Tim Bruton, I like your illustration of the wanderings of the planets.

11) Aggelos Makris, nice composition!

12) Josselin Desmars, I love the elegant lines and soft colors of this image. The subtle sunset hues are delightful, the art deco shape of the Eiffel Tower always looks good, and then the thin soft bluish beams of light seem to point almost at the thin, thin, golden crescent of the Moon. Lovely!

13) Chris Erikson, those rainbows are stunning!

14) D. Pestana - R. Villaverde - D. Forteza, I like that bolide between clouds.

15) Shreenivasan Manievannan, I love that aurora - airplane wing picture. The Pleiades are blue, the aurora is green and reddish, and there is a dramatic splash of brilliant red on the airplane wing.

16) R. Colombari et al., your pink dream of a Lagoon Nebula has already been chosen an APOD. I love it!

17) Rogelio Bernal Andreo, I love those incredibly colorful clouds to one side of the Milky Way.

18) Mike Berthon-Jones and Trish Berthon-Jones, thanks so much for photographing NGC 1532! That is such a fascinating galaxy. I can spot several tiny bright pink "free-floating" spots in the vicinity of NGC 1532, as if they were emission nebulas detached from the main luminous body of the galaxy. And then there is a supernova, too!

19) Steve Mazlin, that's a delightful portrait of NGC 1316 and NGC 1317! The shells of NGC 1316 are fantastic, of course, but personally I love the inner blue ring of NGC 1317. Presumably there is some star formation there, but there are no new stars being born elsewhere in the two galaxies.

20) Tim Christensen, you are here again! Again there is this nice RGB palette and the dramatic contrast between soft-textured, pitch black sinuous and almost "exploding" dust, and riotous wealth of stars.

Page 2 done! I plan to be back.

Starry night over Cordillera Paine.

In my opinion this is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. And at nightfall, it becomes even more beautiful. But the moment is fleeting. Arch of the Milky Way will soon disappear under the horizon. The moon is behind the rocks. And the moonlight illuminates the tops of the mountains on the left and right sides of the image. Each mountain has its own name. Three towers in the center: Southern, Central and Northern. The top in the right side is called the Nest of the Condor(reflected in the waters of the lagoon), and the mountain on the left is called Grandson of the Admiral. The Large Magellanic Cloud is located above it.

Time for my favorites on page 3 for December 2016!

1) Jaspal Chadha, that's a fine-looking many-colored cluster that almost never gets photographed! Thanks for showing it to us!

2) KuriousGeorge, that's a delightfully colorful Crab Nebula!

3) Manuel Jung, that's a nice Milky Way!

4) Nobuhiko Miki, I love that black little "gnome" peeking out between two luminous nebular mountain peaks!

5) Ranjit Biswas, is that an airplane flying between two potted plants? Sure looks like a comet, or perhaps a Geminid.

6) George Chatzifrantzis, you made the California Nebula look like a tortured red sandstone island being battered by angry gray waves!

7) Petr Horálek, the Gum Nebula in Vela and Puppis looks like the outline of a huge pink heart. And the cloud down at horizon looks like a truly giant bird taking flight! And I like your next picture too, where the Moon and Venus are reflected in the just-frozen river(?).

8) Mary Baric, wow! The heartbreakingly white and almost translucent Moon looks as flimsy and fragile as a balloon, gently bouncing down that powerful-looking red volcano.

9) Attila Robert Horvath, that's a fine-looking Orion Nebula - and it takes a lot to make me comment on such pictures, because I see so many of them.

10) Rafael Rodríguez Morales, that's a fascinating "blackbird" descending down a skyscape of dust and blue stars.

11) Raul Villaverde, that's a fine and dusty skyscape which includes the Pleiades, the California Nebula and IC 348.

12) ...and Patrick Gilliland, you have imaged the same stretch of sky. I love your colors!!

13) ManifestStephanie, I'm usually not so interested in Hubble palette images, but I love the delicate, ethereal as well as botanical feel of your Tulip Nebula!

14) Bi2L, that lagoon landscape looks like a huge dog lazing in the water, contemplating the Geminids. It looks amazing!

15) Emmanuele Sordini, that's a splendid "Moon in the sky with clouds and naked branches" portrait.

16) Tragoolchitr Jittasaiyapan, I like your Cocoon Nebula, with the long dark dusty "umbilical cord" attached to it. I also really like your Forax galaxy cluster portrait! That's a very fine-looking NGC 1365!

17) Sergio Montúfar, that's a beautiful composition with the Milky Way over an elegantly layered landscape. Tell me one thing, though. What is that luminous greenish white "sea" at right? Is that light pollution from a city?

18) Gabriele Pallucca, didn't I comment on your picture before? In any case, I still love it!

19) R. Colombari, that's a very nice and colorful IC 4628!

20) Gordon Wright, that's a splendid portrait of the area around van den Bergh 152, with brilliant colors. The main dusty object looks like an elongated body of some sort, a vacuum cleaner monster, ready to suck in all kinds of scruffy stuff in space! It's just about to swallow a blue star! And look at that long red cord that must be plugged in somewhere, giving power to the monster! And look at the planetary nebula in the background, being all agape!
