Portal
In the Atacama desert near Laguna Tebinquinche there are the two round lakes. The water is almost fresh and you can swim. Because of the similarity with the eyes(viewed from above) they call them "Ojos del Salar" - Salty Eyes. In the picture shows only one "eye", but if you look closely, just above it you can see the "eyebrow" of the second. This place is beautiful by day, but by night it becomes special: the stars and the milky Way reflected in the water and if you stand close to the water, it begins to seem that in front of you opens a portal to some other dimension. Just enough to step... and here you have carries through the "wormhole" to other galaxies, stars, planets...
In that night half the sky was covered by a dense blanket of waves of the red airglow. A powerful Zodiacal light and light pollution shines in the sky. The heavenly fire inflames all more strongly.

Re: Submissions: 2016 December
When we first purchased our first telescope in 1990, M1 was the first object we viewed. Of course, you must start with M1!
Over the years we tried to photograph M1 using film. Then we tried a digital camera. Anything to see it more!
Finally, when we were able to afford a cooled CCD camera, we tried it again. It took a few years to get it with our small 8" telescope. But now we're almost happy with the results! This is 20.5 hours of HA, R, G and B data. We created a luminance channel with all 20.5 hours and then overlayed that on top of an HaRGB color channel. We hope you enjoy the results as much as we do. This is our favorite object, M1!
Ha: 23x1800", B: 12x900", G: 12x900", R: 12x900". All at -20C bin 1x1 with a QSI 660. Copyright KG Observatory. More details plus recent M1 imaging history at http://www.astrobin.com/275800/?nc=user

Light pillars & Orion

This is a single 30 second shot. I was caught off-guard by this thinking it was an aurora at first. Then I realized it is light pollution from a nearby town 11 miles away, reflecting off of ice crystals in the clouds.

Cape Drastis - Geminids
Nightscape above Cape Drastis with two Geminid meteors inside Cassiopeia constellation above the clay islets of Peroulades, Corfu.
The landscape shines under the light of the Supermoon of December while the colours of water change because of the clay. The sediments are from lower Paleocene age 1-2 million years old.
The Geminid meteor shower caused by the object 3200 Phaethon.

Re: Submissions: 2016 December
December's Full Moon rising through the clouds and between the barren trees.
Composite of two exposures, 1/2 s for the clouds and halo, 1/25 s for the lunar disk.
Sony A6000 mirrorless camera @200 ISO + Sony 55-210 mm zoom lens @210 mm (f/6.3).
Shot December 13, 2016 near Varese, Italy.
Simple processing in Photoshop: merging of the lunar disk into the longer exposure + slight enhancement of brightness and saturation.
