M31, Andromeda Galaxy
Detail of the core of the Galaxy.
M31 is nearly twice the size of our Milky Way at 200,000 light years in diameter. However, with an estimated mass of 300 to 400 billion suns, it is not as dense as our galaxy. It has an apparent diameter of 3 degrees...6 times the width of the full moon.
Location: Àger-Lleida
Dates: 27-29-30 Sep. & 2-4-5 Oct. 2016
SQM: 21.3-21.6
Telescope: GSO RC14” Truss.
Camera: Moravian G2-8300
Exposures: L:18x300 seg R:G:B: 12:12:12 seg x 300 seg. bin 1x1

Bach shell I (Painting)
The versions shown here address ~30 hours of Bach's cosmic offering (in the case of v. II while listening to his music or working in silence).
Bach shell II (Painting)
At Christmastide in 2005, BBC Radio 3 cleared its schedules for a 214-hour, round-the-clock broadcast of the complete works of J.S. Bach. I came to imagine a spherical shell of music, 10 light-days thick, expanding from Earth; but soon refined the vision into a luminal volute billowing out from one point on the surface of our spinning planet. The versions shown here address ~30 hours of Bach's cosmic offering (in the case of v. II while listening to his music or working in silence).

Who is ready for Halloween? This scene has to be my favorite after hunting for locations to pair with the Milky Way outside of Morgantown, WV. After driving along backroads out in the countryside, I passed this old cemetery. I quickly turned around since I knew this would be a wicked scene to capture! The church lights nearby casted a nice yellow light on the headstones. Even with light pollution, the Milky Way still turned out just enough to make this photograph.

I love the subtle colors here, and the bluish hue of Saturn's north pole.stringdom42 wrote:

Unfortunately for me, Saturn's north pole has apparently recently changed color!
