Sh2-129 with Outters 4

Post by Jedi2014 » Thu Sep 01, 2016 9:36 am

Bicolor image with RGB stars.
Authors: Jens Zippel, Frank Iwaszkiewicz

Sharpless 2-129 is a faint emission nebula in Cepheus. Outters 4, the green nebula inside Sharpless 129, was discovered by Nicolas Outters in August 2011. The challenge in processing was to use short focal length data of a Takahashi FSQ85 telescope and 1000mm images of an f4 newtonian. The squid even not fitted the camera chip of the newtonian (who delivered half of the [OIII] exposures), so I had to create a mosaic of it first, before I could combine them with mine. Star colors are from additional short RGB exposures.

Sh2-128 and Outters 4
Exposures: from July to August 2016
Ha: 20 x 1200 Sec., OIII: 37 x 1800 Sec., RGB 12 x 420 Sec., Sum: 26,0 hrs.
Telescopes: Takahashi FSQ85, ONTC 10" F4 Newton
Cameras: Atik 460 Exm, Atik 383L+
Mounts: EQ8, Celestron CGE GPS
Locations: Bremen and Eggerdorf near Berlin

The Missing Observers 2
http://www.dariogiannobile.com
Copyright: Dario Giannobile The Missing Observers 2

Once the courtyards of our farmhouses were places where people met and talked about the strenuous day of work in the fields. May be they stayed sit looking at the clear and dark sky. Nowadays these places are abandoned and no one is looking at the sky any more. That's the reason why the chairs are empty and the mirror reflects the sky that the missing observers would have looked at. A hoe remembers the farming vocation of such places while the prickly pears on the chair represent the island where I live and the period (summer) when this sky has been captured. Light painting creates a surreal mood for a sky that can be seen but is not observed at the same time.

A personal new way to approach the landscape astrophotography where the photographer tries to compose the scene in almost a pictoric way.

Breaking Wave around Gamma Cass.

Post by ollypenrice » Fri Sep 02, 2016 1:27 pm

This is something neither Tom O'Donoghue nor I had seen before. It is extremely faint and needed 24 Hrs of Ha to reveal the full 'Breaking Wave' feature seen here. This was blended with LRGB for a total of 51.5 hours. As the feature began to reveal itself we did saveral shifts in the framing to cover it. The project began with a simple capture of IC59 and 63 but turned into a voyage of discovery...

Image

Taken at Les Granges in SE France by Olly Penrice and Tom O'DOnoghue using a dual Takashi FSQ106N setup with Atik 11000 and SXVH36 monochrome CCD cameras on a Mesu 200 mount.

I love it! :D

Because I am a diehard fan of stars that are not only blue but intrinsically bright as well, Gamma Cas is obviously a favorite of mine. And because of my love of Gamma Cas, I pay rather close attention to any picture of this star, as well as any portraits of its accompanying nebulas, IC 59 and IC 63. I can say without a doubt that I have never seen what you reveal in your picture.
Image
Although the power of Gamma Cas is many orders of magnitudes weaker than the full blast of cluster NGC 602 in the Small Magellanic Cloud, I think I can see some similarities in the shapes of the surrounding nebulas. In both cases, the stars have carved out a cavity, and the ionized and glowing gases hanging down like a lip or a curtain.

Olly and Tom, your image is brilliant, that's all I can say! :D

Messier 27, the dumbbell nebula, captured using a remote 331mm telescope in Nerpio in Spain. 125 min luminiscence, 160 min RGB bin2 for natural colour, and 350 min narrowband H-alpha, SII and OIII mixed in for contrast.
