Indeed But seriously, it would be really interesting to have some satellite shot of zodiacal light from inside if the plane in high resolution.geckzilla wrote:That's really cool that you've uncovered a secret structure there, Petr. Montes Alpes and Vallis Alpes in great resolution
This image is a mosaic of files that show all the greatness of the mountain range called "Montes Alpes". On the right, there is the famous valley "Vallis Alpes" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vallis_Alpes) with his rhyme well settled in the middle. Everything has been taken up at very high resolution and highlights many structures often not visible from amateur telescopes. On the right side of the valley there is the beautiful flat crater "Egede" with inside many small craters and details.
Setup:
Canopus newton 18"
Point Grey camera GS3
Barlow Televue Powermate 5X
Baader green filter
Location:
Bargone (Genova) Italy

Your zodiacal light image is great, Petr H, but tell me something. Is all of it in color? The Milky Way looks very colorful in your image, but the rest appears to be (almost) black and white.
What is the bright source near the top in your image?

NGC 3576 The Ibex Nebula
With its sweeping horns of nebulosity, this lovely nebula resembles an Ibex (Mountain Goat) and is located in Carina, right next to the Southern Cross.

Messier 105, NGC 3384 and NGC 3373 Galaxy Triplet in Leo
The galaxies M105, NGC 3384 and NGC 3373 form a nice galactic triplet in the constellation Leo. M105 is the elliptical galaxy on the top of the image, NGC 3384 is the elliptical galaxy on the left and NGC 3373 is a spiral galaxy on the lower right. This is a 5-minute exposure using 30-second sub-frames at ISO 3200. Equipment included a Canon 6D + Antares Focal Reducer at prime focus of my Meade 12” LX-90, both mounted on a Celestron CGEM DX mount. Imaging session was on April 24, 2016.
Magnitudes for these galaxies are 9.3 for M105, 10.0 for NGC 3384 and 11.8 for NGC 3373. Distance to these galaxies are roughly 30+ million light years.

Encke gap is known to be very hard to see inside the Saturn's rings. Despite the low elevation of the giant here in France (20°), the great 1 meter telescope is able to see the gap all aroud the ring. It may be the first time that it's observed like this with a 1 meter class telescope.

These 3 images have been done the same night at the Pic du Midi Observatory.

If HD 181327 had been as red as T Lyrae, there would be no way that its system of comets, illuminated by the light of their sun, would look blue.
I realize that many people are terribly tired of my ever-recurring complaints about the color of astronomical images, and I realize that I'm sensitive to such things bordering on the hysterical. At least I can accept that mapped color images of phenomena emitting their energy at wavelengths outside the visual spectrum can never be "realistically colorized". So in such instances, complaining about the colors of an out-of-the-visual-spectrum image is like griping that the portrait of an atom doesn't make it look like the Solar system. Yeah, right.
But when it comes to the illustration of HD 181327, there is no reason why this should be seen as "mapped color". Instead, the picture flatters the public misunderstanding that hot sources like stars should look red, and cold sources like ice should look blue.
At the very, very least, the picture could have shown HD 181327 looking yellowish, like in this (rather red) zimmer.csufresno.edu portrait of F5-type star Mirfak.

Hi,
I want to share a widefield image of M51 under good seeing conditions. Please click on the image for full resolution samples. I am puzzle with NGC5198, it shows a dimm structure similar to a tidal tail, I haven't found any information about it but inspecting the raw frames I can confirm that the structure is not a processing artifact.
