This image is a continuation of an image I made in 2014 of the M81/82 galaxy group. I made the images and found signals of integrated flux nebula surrounding the galaxies. Soon after that I got in touch with Neil Fleming who had a splendid image of the IFN in this region on his website and a fellow astrophotographer, Michael Van Doorn, who had imaged the galaxies using his hyperstar setup.

We decided to combine the data and create a deep field of this region. The lower magnitude visible is around mag. +24 in this image!
Because of the long period of bad weather I decided to do some reprocessing on previously made images and decided to see if I could get even more out of this image.

I think the result is astonishing. As far as I have found this is the deepest image of this region that I could find on the internet. The IFN really stands out very clearly and it's nice to see details like Arp's loop at M81 really jumping out to the image....

Image details are visible in the image.

I love Mia's light pillars showing the street map in the sky and Petr's take on the Milky Way!

That's a lot of flux, Andre! WTF? What the flux?! :D
Just call me "geck" because "zilla" is like a last name.

I imaged Sirius a couple of nights back and was amazed to find this new construction.

Impressive construction, figuring it's about 0.1 ly across at this image scale (easily enclosing Sirius B, as well). "Busy" is an understatement!

Watching the greatness of the universe.

What can you see in this picture?
A nearly zero fraction of the universe, but you see a human ,our earth thousands of stars
and million of planets maybe some with life ,in 30.000 light years far away.
one photo ,thousand words,unlimited fantasy.

Ever have a friend ask you to point out a few constellations while enjoying the sky on a summer night? Here is an annotated version showing constellations, stars, and the planet Saturn in a panorama including green airglow and the Milky Way over Glacier National Park on May 23rd, 2015. I hand drew in constellation lines to their apparent position and cross referenced their locations with planetarium software. Please remember that as the Earth rotates all these objects will move as well! Because Saturn is a planet revolving around the sun you will not find Saturn in this same location this upcoming year. Use this image as a "road map" for your next adventure out under the Milky Way to point out constellations during Summer!

One of my favorite. Entitled "Heaven & Earth Touch" I took this during the Solar Eclipse on May 21, 2012 as the sun was setting. You can see the sun (the white portion) and the moon and the Earth.

Two southern crosses (... and the 'witch head' tree!)

Post by aldomottino » Wed Jan 27, 2016 9:41 pm

The first cross belongs to a small but beautiful catholic temple. The ‘San Eduardo’ chapel is placed at a top of a hill, 22 km away from San Carlos de Bariloche, Patagonia, at the south of Argentina. The chapel presents a SE-NW orientation and is very close to the Andes mountains.
Main trees in the scene belong to cypress family, more precisely to the Patagonian cypress specie. The chapel was built several decades ago using cypress wood. Branches of one of these trees on the middle left of the picture, particularly illuminated with white-light reflectors, look to me like the ‘witch head’ nebula.
The second cross is the constellation of Crux, easily recognizable in the sky!
Regards to all!
Aldo

Title: Jellyfish Nebula: a Supernova Remnant (SNR)
Copyright: Hu Zou, Jin Wu, Jinghua Gao & BASS survey
Jellyfish Nebula (IC443, 06h16m37.4s, +22d31m54s) is a Galactic supernova remnant in Gemini. Its distance from the Earth is about 5000 light years. The SNR interacts with the surrounding molecular clouds making it a very complex shape. The explosion of its progenitor has formed an peculiar object that is likely a neutron star or pulsar, which can be found by the Chandra observations. This color image shows a north part of the nebula combined by the SDSS u (blue), g (green) and r (red) bands. The observations were taken the 90Prime camera on the Bok telescope within the Beijing-Arizona Sky Survey (BASS, http://batc.bao.ac.cn/BASS) time on Jan. 14, 2016.

NGC 253 – the Sculptor Galaxy is located at a distance of 11.42 million light years and can be found in the Constellation Sculptor. It is also known by a few other names, sometimes referred to as Silver Coin or Silver Dollar Galaxy. A good set of binoculars will allow you to view this beautiful object as it is fairly large and bright at Magnitude 8. Recent research suggests the presence of a supermassive black hole located at the centre of the galaxy, with a mass estimated to be 5 million times that of our Sun.

This galaxy is a Star Burst Galaxy. Specifically, a galaxy that is still undergoing a period of intense star formation. I decided to take some Ha data and throw it into the mix to see what this would produce. There was a surprising amount of Ha being emitted from the galaxy. On fact, huge areas of the galaxy were emitting this wave length. These are the bright red areas seen in the image.

There are a number of red supergiant stars that can be located within the galaxy. Several young stars are located within the halo region as well as some neutral hydrogen.

A circumpolar star trail image was taken as the sky cleared after two feet of snow fell in Central Pennsylvania. The full moon provided illumination on the freshly fallen snow. The photo was made of 76 twenty second exposures taken with a Canon T6s. (Canon 8-15 mm f4L lens @ 9 mm, f/5.0, ISO 400) The images were stacked using StarStaX.
