Inspired by Dave Erickson's picture I made deep Ha picture of the area West from IC 1805. There are a lot of dark, fascinating objects there. The biggest Ha there is SupeNova Remnant G 132.7+1.3.

A few months ago I was crawling through the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) data and found this very nice dataset of the Draco Triplet. I decided to download it for later use.

Now I processed the data and this is the result of the processing. As far as I know this is the image of the Draco Triplet with the highest detail ever shown (at least I couldn't find any imagery with more resolution).

The imagery was taken with the 3.6m telescope. Five images per channel were used:

R: 5x200s
G: 5x200s
B: 5x750s

Altogether that is 1.6 hours of exposure taken with the Megaprime cam.

Dataprocessing of this data is quite difficult because the camera consists of 36 CCD's that all have different behavior and gaps in between them. To get a good image all gradients have to be taken out which shows to be quite hard.

This summer in Greece, there has been many electrical storms and some very intense. I have seen some of the most interesting thunders and managed to capture some while watching many interesting effects like the flashover thunders that goes from the power grid columns to the sky in bright green glow. I didn't know that the light intensity of a thunder can reach higher levels than of the Sun's and after watching many extremely bright ones, my eyes where irritated and I could see bright spots in my field of view for many hours after the end of the storm and felt a burning sensation like the one from welding metal.

It was an outstanding show that was moving slowly giving me the opportunity to capture it on its full extend almost from a safety distance (or I was trying to convince my self it was safe...) with my full frame dslr camera. Luckily the rain came just in time that the thunders moved away from my location. What was more interesting to watch, was the thunders dissapearing in small pieces and not in flash like having matter or made from matter.

Why Apokalipsis? In greek it means revelation and this how this imaging session was for me!

The complete Veil complex in bi colour.
In this image I really wanted to capture the complete complex showing all of the supernova remnant instead of the usual parts that are normally imaged.

Milky Way Over Tortuga

The Dry Tortugas has probably the darkest skies of any national park. Located 70 miles west of Key West it is accessible only by boat or seaplane. Primitive camping is available, and here I've caught my son laying flat on a picnic table star gazing. This is a two minute exposure on a Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer sky tracker with a modified Canon T3i and a Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 lens shot at ISO 800. What little sky glow seen here is from boats or lightning in the distance, or two nearby lighthouses. The sky just sparkles at this park...

So we said goodbye to Antares and the center of the Milky Way, while a monster of darkness devours it.

Even we see it, beautiful, at early night, but soon will disappear from our firmament. Not will be until next year, in spring, when stars of winter give way again to Scorpio in all its splendor.

For then we'll be there, faithful to our appointment, looking forward until dark to, poorly, freeze beauty of our galaxy.

This beautiful planetary nebula in Grus is about 2.2' in diameter but a very faint outer OIII halo pushes the diameter out to over 6 arc min
This ultra faint halo was first hinted at in images by Martin Pugh in 2012 and the Chart 32 team and finally imaged in more detail by Don Goldman in only 2013
