APOD: Suiting Up for the Moon (2015 Apr 01)

How do humans reproduce in zero G conditions when " swimming upstream " does not compute ?

Good question. I would think gravity is a major part of the survival of the fittest process, and zero gee will level the playing field in interesting ways. Immediately following the festivities, it might be advisable to start bouncing off the walls to provide shock gee events, or having your partner spin you in place.ta152h0 wrote:How do humans reproduce in zero G conditions when " swimming upstream " does not compute ?

The clue is in "swimming", not in "upstream".ta152h0 wrote:How do humans reproduce in zero G conditions when " swimming upstream " does not compute ?
There are assorted problems with the mechanics of sex in zero-G, and the absence of gravity is likely to have profound effects on fetal development, and maybe even on the ability to get pregnant. But it shouldn't make any difference in terms of the little swimmers getting to their destination.

Not to worry. The little guys are always in a zero G-string environment.ta152h0 wrote:How do humans reproduce in zero G conditions when " swimming upstream " does not compute ?

March 32 has become my favorite APOD day. What an udderly delightful idea to send cows into space. The idea of which, i am quite sure, has yet to be milked to it's full potential. Add to that the discovery of the force of the universe by the people of CERN, and it has been quite a day indeed. Perhaps next March 32, someone proficient in the use of the force, will plop a cow into the ISS and they'll send pictures back of how it's doing. It's been a very tiring day for me, what with all the excitement going on. My energy is so drained, nothing much matters. But the good news is that I've got a whole year to recuperate until next March 32, when i hope to have another day of moooooving experiences similar to todays. GO APOD! Rah-Rah-Rah!
p.s.
Perhaps next year, RJN won't ask such a tough question. I gave up on it. It seems harder than finding one particular cow plop in a pasture full of plops. Must be the professor in him coming out.

I'll also guess Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry.RJN wrote:Quiz: Name the famous science museum that currently houses this work of art. - RJN

But my second guess might by the Adler Planetarium. Two places I will definitely see when my wife gets me back to her home town.

Chicago does have a "famous" cow blazing through history. But where is it now?

It may have already been given by others but as it's gone on long enough now could RJN please give the definite answer.

Oh, sorry. Yes, it was Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry. The picture was taken in December 2014.DavidLeodis wrote:It may have already been given by others but as it's gone on long enough now could RJN please give the definite answer.

I wonder if "Suiting Up" in the title of this APOD is a reference to a certain TV show? Also what would Darth Vader wear to the ball?
