Re: Submissions: 2015 January
--- View on the arch ---
In Brittany, we have lots of beautiful places to capture the stars.
This one is called Meneham. The gatehouse was built between two rocks. Its aim was to monitor the coast, inhabited over the time by customs officer, military etc...
In the center, discover the constellation of Orion, just on the right, the Pleiades and below it, Comet Lovejoy. A halfway between the comet and the clouds completely on the right, we see a blur: the M31 galaxy.

The Great Foot of Sagittarius.
Starting with M8 as the heel and finishing with IC4685 as the toes, it really does look a giant foot wearing a flip flop (or thong for we Aussies)
Info
42x5min subs, imaged through a Takahashi FS78 using a .8x focal reducer. Canon CDS1100D modified/cooled camera. Captured using BackYardEOS, stacked in Deep Sky Stacker and processed in Photo Shop CS3.
thanks for looking

The Evening Show
On the evening of January 21st, 2015 I captured this image on a tripod with my Canon 5D Mark III. The moon is featured prominently just after sunset illuminated by both the sun and earth shine. To the upper right of the moon shining brightly is the planet Venus. To the lower left Mercury can be seen. A couple of bright stars are also visible, to the upper left of Venus we see Deneb Al Giedi in Capricorn, and to the upper right of the moon is Sadalsuud in the constellation Aquarius. In the forground is my mount and telescope ready for a night of astrophotography. The evening show begins...

Rosette nebula (aka NGC 2237, NGC 2238, NGC 2239, NGC 2244, NGC 2246) is an emission nebula associated with open clusters of stars located in the constellation of Monoceros, 5,200 light years away.
Imaged from Ocala, Florida through Ha, OIII and SII filters and processed using Hubble palette, assigning SII to RED, OIII to BLUE and Ha to GREEN.
20 minute exposures combined to a total of:
3 hours Ha (binned 1x1)
3 hours OIII (binned 1x1)
3 hours SII (binned 1x1)
Processed in Photoshop using Hubble palette
