Re: Submissions: 2015 January
The conjunction of Venus and Mercury has been a surprise on the evening of January 9, 2015 from the Observatory of La Hita, Toledo, because of exceptional weather conditions. The clear sky and high atmospheric pressure of more than 1043 hPa provided an unforgettable show. Venus was hiding on the horizon, and when he was about to disappear Venus “doubled” and turned into green... Then he disappeared and again exhibited a green flash similar to the Green Ray that we see for the Sun when the atmosphere is very stable.

Comet Lovejoy (C/2014 Q2)
Located just off the Pleiades star cluster, comet Lovejoy is an easy binocular object at 5th magnitude. A bright, greenish coma is very evident in this two and a half second exposure taken on the evening of January 10 2015 in the city of Kavala in Greece

Dear Drs.,
I am an amateur astrophotographer from La Coruña, in NorthWestern Spain. This time I am sending you a picture from In Pau da Cruz da Vella is in the Serra do Buio, 702 meters high, and is considered landmark between the municipalities of Ferreira do Valadouro Cervo, Xove and Viveiro the four of Lugo, 43°35'8.69" -7°29'22.56", Lugo (Galicia).
A past history of Galicia is full of stories that tell us about the conflicts between terrains by the limits. In the case of the Pau da Cruz da Vella happens also, but in this case the discussion is not between people, but even among municipalities: Valadouro, Xove, Cervo and Viveiro quarrel by saying that the Cross is yours.
Moreover, another Galician tradition that comes very last is the legends of the mysterious magical stories or explaining the origin of things; here too the "Cruz" of Pau da Vella has a lot to tell, since even in his name preserves the vestiges of these legends.
I hope you like it and I would be delighted if you consider it good enough to be published as an A.P.O.D.

Re: Submissions: 2015 January
I love all the various nebulae of the LMC and considering there are so many to choose from, I think this could be my favourite region! The colours might be crazy but they are fairly accurate and show the abundant hydrogen and oxygen in the area very well! The other great thing is that your image includes two Wolf Rayet nebulae! The more well known one is NGC 2020, the blue bubble near the right and the less well known one is DEM L240, the irregular blue cloud above NGC 2035.stevous67 wrote:NGC2029, NGC2035, NGC2040, NGC2020, NGC2014 - HaRGB
This area is sometimes known as the Southern Seagull [I may have it upside down!]

Information about the image:
Instrument: Planewave CDK 12.5
Focal Ratio: F8
Camera: STL-11002 + AOX
Camera Sensitivity: Ha BIN 1x1, RGB BIN 2x2
Exposure Details: Ha 1200sec x 28, RGB 240sec x 4
Mount: AP900GTO
Viewing Location: Taken in a suburb of Melbourne [Victoria, Australia].
Software Enhancements: CCDStack2, PS, Pixinsight
Comment: Very little colour data; crazy colours! Hahahaha...
Author: Steven Mohr
Also I don't know the origin of the name Southern Seagull but I think it might have been mistakenly associated with this region?
