The Colorful IC 434- The Horsehead and the Flame
I took this with a non modified dslr over the course of two nights. I was astounded to see how much detail was visible, even with basic gear.

IC 2488 in Vela
A colorful open star cluster in the southern limits of the constellation of Vela. There are not many color pictures on IC 2488 although due its beauty, it could rival with many other popular NGC southern open clusters.
Image produced in collaboration with Ezequiel Bellocchio (acquisition) and Sergio Eguivar (processing).

Objets in the Sky
Hard to get a non noisy picture using a Nikon d5100, still I think the experience I get every night I do Astrophotos its much important, working under hard conditions just makes you better. I improved my post process, the hardest part of the work,, I think a better camera will do the difference. That night weather conditions and the fact that I was out in the route taking pictures was such a great experience, we drove long way to get clear skies. The magellanic clouds, the Southern Pleiades, Eta Carinae, just a beautiful conbination of the art of the Universe.

Interesting to compare notes on the Nikon D5100, which I use as well. My best (and only) image thus far of the LMC and SMC together, was created from a stack of 10-20 subs, taken with a D5100, on a fixed tripod, with the kit zoom lens at 18mm: Note that the exact same subs were used to create my first (and only) ever star trail image, which I posted a while back, here:
http://asterisk.apod.com/viewtopic.php? ... 35#p217235
... where you can see evidence of yucky orange light pollution and clouds. Less than ideal conditions, I'm sure you'll agree. I'm not sure it is fair to blame the D5100 for all the noise. I think it is a great little DSLR. It is more about stacking and processing enough subs to increase the signal-to-noise ratio.

A Battlestar in Cetus
Looking like a huge Colonial Galactica class Battlestar being chased by a small pack of Cylon Raider craft, NGC 247 in Cetus is actually a nearby dwarf spiral galaxy seen tilted somewhat edge on at a distance of about 11 Million light years away. This is the same distance as to the more famous nearby spiral NGC 253 but NGC 247 is only 2/3 its size. At this relatively close distance many young star clusters with massive blue stars are clearly resolved and many pink HII regions of star birth are scattered throughout the galactic disc.
See a larger file here: http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/ ... 4/original
What look like Cylon chaser craft following NGC 247 are in fact 5 much more distant galaxies:
A: ESO 540-25 SBc, Mag 14.7, 1' X 0.8'
B: ESO 540-24 SBbc, Mag 15.7, 0.75' X 0.52'
C: MCG-4-3-12 Type unknown, Mag 17, size < 0.5'
D: ESO 540-23 SBb, Mag 14.5, 1' X 0.39'
A faint bridge of matter is visible that appears to connect MCG-4-3-12 to the larger and brighter ESO 540-23

Bunch of Halos
On 1st November 2014, a bunch of halos were visible (location: Oberwolfach, Germany), including parhelia (sun dogs), a piece of the parhelic circle, the upper tangent arc, the circumzenithal arc and a Parry arc with a very faint supralateral arc.

150 million years ago
https://www.flickr.com/photos/68018999@N08/
Copyright: Jose Luis Sanchez Sauropods were the largest creatures ever lived on Earth, first appeared in the early to middle Jurassic period, reaching their peak by the end of Jurassic, 150 million year ago, being mostly replaced by titanosaurs until the Cretaceous–Paleogene (K–Pg) extinction event, 65 million years ago. By this time, the Earth's axis did not point to the Polar star, but star trails looked quite similar to that shown here.
This real size model (35m long and 10m high) of a Sauropod is located in the small village of Fuentes de Magaña (Soria, Spain), in the center of a wide extension of teropods and sauropods footprints. It's probably the bigest and more detailed reproduction of a sauropod outdoors in whole Europe.
This image is a two hours exposure showing the star trails surrounding Polar star and the sauropod landscape, transporting us to a far past in the Earth's evolution.
