Night Streaker

ImageNight Streaker by markg, on Flickr

I headed out to the Wellington South Coast in New Zealand to attempt to capture some of the recent aurora activity. The aurora wasn't visible to the naked eye, and the camera was only capturing a faint glow on the horizon, but I proceeded to set up a time-lapse. Within minutes, a huge meteor streaked across the sky burning up in the Earth's atmosphere, and fortunately for me, it was captured in one of the frames of my time-lapse. That certainly made up for the lack of aurora that night!

A planetary nebula with a really faint halo

Post by stevec35 » Tue Sep 09, 2014 11:37 am

This is an image of IC5148, a planetary nebula in Grus, taken with a 36.8 cm RCOS Ritchey Chretien at F9 with a SBIG STXL6303 CCD camera. The main image is LRGB with a total exposure time of 12.5 hours. An additional 18.5 hours of OIII was added to the blue and green to bring out the very faint surrounding halo only discovered in 2012.

Hermit Spider and Moon
Copyright: Brian Hancock

This hermit spider is quite busy at dusk spinning its web, and it is pictured here in front of tonight's moon.

Composite of two images, one focused on the spider and the other on the moon.

That is amazing, I still can't believe this was missed by professionals! Who knows how many other unknown haloes are waiting to be found! Also a minor correction, part of the halo was found in 2012 and the rest of it was discovered separately in 2013.

Super Moon over an ancient castle of an abandoned Roman villa that now rises from the ashes thanks to modern techniques of archeology.

The photo is made from another city abandoned and partially buried by the passage of time, with history from the Copper Age: Ategua.
