This image shows a small part of the Coma Galaxy Cluster. IC 4042 is the galaxy near the centre, it seems to be surrounded by a tidal shell.

This is a peculiar galaxy system consisting of the distorted spiral galaxy NGC 5218 and the shell elliptical NGC 5216 connected together with a tidal bridge. This interacting pair of galaxies is also known as Arp 104.

IC 1459 is the large shell elliptical galaxy, which forms a nice group of galaxies. A closeup of IC 1459 with a larger telescope and a longer exposure would show its surrounding shells more clearly. The halo around IC 5148 was partly discovered by Martin Pugh in 2012 and partly discovered by the amateur CHART32 team in 2013. This is very likely to be the first ever planetary nebula halo discovered by amateur astronomers!!!

The type of dark globules are Bok globules but the ones in this nebula have the name of Thackeray's Globules. Other examples of Bok globules can be found in the Pacman Nebula, Lagoon Nebula and the Rosette Nebula. There are also some isolated examples that aren't part of any starforming complexes such as BHR 71 (also known as Sandqvist 136). Other related clouds include bright rimmed globules, which have bright ionized rims facing the ionizing source and also cometary globules, which are dusty molecular clouds that have a head-tail morphology that resemble comets. There is one unique example that seems to be both bright rimmed and cometary, Ori I-2 near the Horsehead Nebula, which there has never been a closeup image of.

How interesting, Geck.

NGC 3597 is obviously a a galaxy with a high surface brightness inner part, which contains a lot of ongoing or recent star formation. There is a huge envelope of old stars surrounding the bright center.

The galaxy is interestingly colorless. No parts of it appear particularly yellow and no parts appear blue. Can you tell me what filters were used for this image?

That's one of those Frankenstein images. There was F702W available all over for the red channel but for blue the right side uses F405W and the left side uses F555W. Pseudogreen all around and there is a triangular hole up and left of the nucleus which was completely devoid of data. It's a weird galaxy probably near the end of a merge. Is it transitioning into an elliptical galaxy? I don't know if there is any star formation. There was an old supernova I found in the nucleus that the scientists missed.

Adam Block needs to image this galaxy! I imagine it would look quite blue.
