Movement of Comet Lovejoy among the Stars (30s interval!!)
Copyright: Christoph Puetz

This video shows the movement of Comet Lovejoy (C/2013 R1) among the (fixed) stars. It was composed of
92 single CCD shots at the Peterberg Observatory (sternwarte-peterberg.de), Each frame had a 30s exposure at a 6 inch / f=1350mm Starfire APO refractor. Comet Lovejoy was moving fast - there is a noticable movement every 30 seconds !
First frame was taken at 2013, Nov, 27th at 03h41 Middle Eureopean Time, last frame was taken at 05h08.
In the lower right corner is a small distant galaxy visible.

Hi everybody,

I'd like to share with you this video I recorded of the November 3rd 2013 solar eclipse at sunrise. It's (almost) real time, so it goes slow (nothing like a time lapse) but that was my goal: to show things the way they really are. In the beginning, the clouds block the view and you need to wait a little bit before you can actually see that a piece of the sun is missing, taken away by the moon. But that was part of the event for me: waiting anxiously for the sun to come out of the clouds, and I wanted this to be part of the video.

The music was recorded specifically for this video by a friend of mine who improvised directly while watching the video (a couple of hours of work were necessary before obtaining a music that I liked ...).

So, if you have ~3 minutes of free time, turn on the volume, switch to full screen + HD and I hope you enjoy this moment of serenity.

The Day the Earth Smiled - The Movie

Post by Sisko7 » Mon Dec 23, 2013 3:23 pm

The Day the Earth Smiled

On that day the Earth smiled just as every day... but on that day, 19 July 2013 we were united by one cause in a single moment to be allied with the Universe, the Planet and every single being on it to celebrate advancement of science and knowledge, our understanding of the cosmos. To celebrate enlightenment by reason that gives us awareness of the nature so we could understand better our purpose on this speck of dust.
As we stood near that Aqueduct from the 6th century, waiting for the moment to come to have one unique photo with everybody else on this planet, we knew we were part of something amazing, something beautiful that could not even be imagined by our ancestors who were standing again before the stars in the same wander and awe.

Special gratitude and credits goes to Dr. Carolyn Porco for the whole concept of "The Day The Earth Smiled" who came up with the idea to take the picture and to turn it into a global celebration.

Hi,

Please see these two time-lapse videos I have shot over the past year or so. The first was shot high in the Atacama, Chile. The second was shot in Northern Norway. I hope you like them!
