Ahh... 10'F with gusty wind. Refreshing! IF you're an ice-cube :!:

Six or seven inches of snow here in the last three days, with temperatures on the cold side (teens at night, 20s in the day). No wind, though. Nice to get an early start on stockpiling a little snow.

Winter isn't yet here, but it is fast approaching. And when it's here, it's not going to let go of us until March or so.

<<The first mention of Varadero was in 1555. The place was first used as a dry dock (Spanish: varadero) and the salt mines of the peninsula supplied most of the Spanish Latin America Fleet since 1587. However, the foundation date of Varadero as city was only on December 5, 1887, when ten families from the city of Cárdenas obtained a permission to build their vacation homes between today's 42nd and 48th Street. Tourism grew in the early 1930s as Irénée du Pont, an American millionaire [and a proponent of eugenics], built a mansion on the peninsula which he named Xanadu. Many famous and infamous people stayed in Varadero (e.g., Al Capone, Rob Stevenson, etc.).

After the Cuban Revolution in 1959, many mansions were expropriated from their rich owners. These mansions soon became museums. As a symbol of the new integrated tourism for Cubans and foreign visitors of all social classes, the Park of the 8000 Cubicles was built in 1960. Visitors could leave their belongings in the basement of the park, had access to sanitary installations and gastronomic services on the first floor, and could rent bathing articles and swimsuits. In addition to the beach, Varadero has natural attractions such as caves and a chain of easily accessed virgin cays. Varadero is primarily visited by European and Canadian tourists. The number of U.S. tourists visiting Varadero, although increasing, has been limited because of the U.S. government restrictions that make it difficult for U.S. citizens to visit Cuba as tourists.>>

A hot, humid day here yesterday. We had a barbeque in the back yard, with a stack of kids in the swimming pool as happy as brown bar-ba-loots. A few nights earlier, barefoot, I snapped this so-so fixed-tripod shot of Andromeda through our Dr Seuss-esque trees, with M31 appearing as the smudge near the centre. The chained maiden barely pops her head above my northern horizon, and when she appears in the evening, she heralds Summer, which for us starts on the 1st of December. Some people like to ponder aliens in M31. For me, M31 makes me ponder all the frozen people in our Northern Hemisphere.

A recursion by any other name... "Suzuki's Recursion – a Buell by any other name". This recursion wouldn't do me any good, as there is Buell's apple orchard out to the west of me, so when i hear "Buell", i think of apples. Especially Red & Yellow Delicious. YUM

Today was the first day with snowfall here in my town, central Germany, after the hot summer.
It was raining all the time till yesterday, now the ground is frozen and it is very slippery.
I fear, the siberian icy wind will reign over Europe again, like last winter, getting powerful because the northpole is just too warm...

I read an article recently that the polar ice cover this year was not only happening sooner, but there was already 60% more of than last year, come Novemburrrr. Don't know if that would affect Germany or not.

I think that the ice cover was growing in the South Pole, not the North Pole. On the other hand, here in the northern hemisphere, the Arctic cold seems to have wandered south from the Pole and taken up residence in North America and northern Europe instead.

Where's the "I'm cold" smiley? This one?
