APOD: Bright Planetary Nebula NGC 7027... (2013 Aug 26)
Re: APOD: Bright Planetary Nebula NGC 7027... (2013 Aug 26)
I'd call it the Wonton Nebula. That came to mind before I read that you were taking suggestions for a name.

So many suggestions and agreement for pillow/marshmallow or other rectangular shapes. And so sure of themselves! Why??? I think these people do not have good monitors or have their brightness turned so far down that they cannot see the MOST UNIQUE AND DISTINGUISHING FEATURE in the image - the five pointed feature!
I'll just leave this here again:

But seriously, The Flying Squirrel is the best so far.

Personally I think that this should be named the Armstrong Nebula to remember the great man...
Re: APOD: Bright Planetary Nebula NGC 7027... (2013 Aug 26)
Reminded me of a brain, so "Grey Matter Nebulae"
Re: APOD: Bright Planetary Nebula NGC 7027... (2013 Aug 26)
The wizard nebula. Starting from the lowest part, you can see his scraggly beard. Moving upward the mouth and large nose are visible, and finally the large-brimmed pointy hat!
Re: APOD: Bright Planetary Nebula NGC 7027... (2013 Aug 26)
I could go for Flying Squirrel. But I also suggest "The Brain Nebula"

I think the whipped cream nebula would be SWEET!
Re: APOD: Bright Planetary Nebula NGC 7027... (2013 Aug 26)
Totally looks like a pillow.
Re: APOD: Bright Planetary Nebula NGC 7027... (2013 Aug 26)
I am definitely thinking the flying squirrel nebula. You can see the four paws, the tail, and even a faint head. Of course, it could be a sugar glider...

Monstro and Pinocchio Nebula. Pinocchio is the bright dot in the mouth of Monstro.

It looks like Casper the Friendly Ghost, soft and non-threatening.

Lisa, from the hairdo of The Simpsons character.
Re: APOD: Bright Planetary Nebula NGC 7027... (2013 Aug 26)
"The amazing flying sea of space star that looks like a flying squirrel"
But what I am wondering is what are the objects that look like stars stretched in all directions all around it? That isn't massive gravitational lensing is it?

Turtle Belly Nebula
Re: APOD: Bright Planetary Nebula NGC 7027... (2013 Aug 26)
I'd suggest "The Diamond".

I second that name. Pillow is what came to mind first. Then again, I just got up.prosell wrote:The pillow nebula!
