Crickets :?: You hear crickets :?: :?:
I think the Good ship Asterisk* is flying through Maxwell Smarts Cone of Silence.
Or... The vast majority of posters are on shore leave.
I don't think I've seen the boards this quiet since i came aboard.
Maybe it's something in the air.
Or... the calm before a storm.
Oh well, it'll go away... like everything else.

There are more ethically acceptable ways of approaching this, however. For instance, in the U.S. the tax system is set up so that people are effectively rewarded for having more kids. Rewarding people for having no kids or just one doesn't seem objectionable (other than politically, perhaps). Financial incentives, as opposed to legal or financial disincentives could be very effective, and at the same time avoid the ethically questionable approaches of the Chinese.
I've just returned home after spending eight days in northern England attending a course, having a quite lovely time. While I was there, a female English writer suggested that women who want to become great writers should have only one child. Many people who heard about this were quite upset about it. A woman making up her mind she will only have one child, can you imagine?

I'm afraid that here in the U.S. we have a sizable minority opposed to the idea of a woman making up her own mind about anything.

Singular, Art. We lack the semi-autonomous, semi-retarded co-pilot.

My wife might disagree, at times.
