Moonrise over San Francisco, during sunset, and about one hour before the full Moon. The western horizon already casts a shadow onto most of the city, but the tops of the highest buildings still glow from the last bits of the day's sunlight. (May 24, 2013, 8:15pm PDT).

Planetary conjunction

Post by conemmil » Sun May 26, 2013 9:38 am

Hello,

After many days of hazy skies, last Friday we had very clear weather and we could observe the beautiful show of the planets. Here are two images made on two consecutive days:

This one is from yesterday
This is from Friday
I made both images from Thessaloniki Greece.

Enjoy

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8404/8841 ... 5b0e_o.jpg Venus, Jupiter and Mercury have converged to form a bright triangle over the centre of Chongqing.
I'm very happy to have the chance to enjoy this celestial beauty after several rainy days.

Cosmic alignment!

Post by conemmil » Sun May 26, 2013 9:45 pm

Hello,

Here is an image of the planetary conjunction between Jupiter Venus and Mercury. This was one of the best skies I've seen in Thessaloniki Greece and it happened with the closest alignment of the planets. What a great view!
Made with a Takahashi FS60 and a Canon 5D

The Spear thru the Scorpion by Radical Retinoscopy, on Flickr

I was taking a two and a half hour star trail sequence on a cool spring evening when a single exposure captured the brightest meteor that I have seen so far! I really like how the meteor is pointing right at the head of Scorpius. The photo is a 20 second exposure at ISO 400 (f/5.0 with a Sigma 10-20 mm lens @ 14 mm). The photo was taken in the quiet Lancaster County countryside in Pennsylvania.
