I need more clues, stephen63!

As for the things that are in "the scale of the universe" animation and that Hesiod might have described, well, perhaps the pyramids?

Ann

P.S. I googled "Hesiod pyramids" and found practically nothing. Say, you don't mean Mount Helicon - even though I don't know if that is to be found in the animation you posted?

Another name for earth. Hmm... third rock from the sun... Tera-firmer... Gaia, or various variations, depending on whether or not you're talking planet, or goddess of the planet.
Of course there is -man-, who comes from the earth, so man could be called a decendant of earth. As my ignorance knows no bounds, that may be about as far as i can get.

No, the answer to the puzzle lies in who is a descendant of Gaia!

OK, one more hint: A theogony.

Edit: A theogony by Hesiod.

haha, in that area is where i ran into the correct spelling of Gaia. But I'm not about to try and go through the whole thing to possibly recognize a decendant of Gaia. That's for someone who is already familiar with Gaia, which I'm not.

From Chaos came Erebus (place of darkness between the earth and the underworld) and Nyx (Night). Erebus and Nyx reproduced to make Aether (the outer atmosphere where the gods breathed) and Hemera (Day). From Gaia came Uranus (Sky), the Ourea (Mountains), and Pontus (Sea).
So its Uranus...?

It would seem to be Uranus (her son) or one of the 12 titans Uranus and Gaia begatted. He said descendants... with an -s-, so it would have to be the titans.

Oops right, the answer is: titans

In the first generation of twelve Titans, the males were Oceanus, Hyperion, Coeus, Cronus, Crius, and Iapetus and the females - the Titanesses - were Mnemosyne, Tethys, Theia, Phoebe, Rhea and Themis

Oceanus: lunar mare

saturn = cronus
among the moons of saturn: rhea, tethys, hyperion, pheobe, lapetus, mimas

asteroid: mnemosyne, themis

Theia:
Title: A New Disintegrative Capture Theory for the Origin of the Moon
Authors: Peter D. Noerdlinger

The object that resulted in the creation of the Moon started in the same orbital path as Earth around the Sun, but at Earth's L4. This proto-Moon (PM) was 4 times less massive than the usual Giant Impact (GI) object "Theia" and was captured into Earth orbit. It had a 32% Iron-Nickel-Sulphur core supporting a dynamo, which explains magnetized lunar rocks. Following capture, it was torn apart by tidal forces and its core of iron plastered itself, with some of its rock mantle, on the surface of Earth at a very flat angle (producing the "Late Veneer"). After tidal stripping, the remaining PM rock was driven away from Earth to about 3.8 times Earth's radius and formed into what is now the Moon. The GI theory has several troubles: The violent collision melts the entire Earth, contrary to geological evidence. The Moon itself also has to condense out of the vapour cloud generated in the collision, but there is evidence that the Moon was not condensed out of vapour. In the new theory, the Moon as we know it may be only 3.8 - 3.9 billion years old, not 4.56 as usually assumed. That is the age of the PM. The minerals in the Moon would be about as old as the Earth, but would have been re-arranged in the capture and temporary disintegration process. If the Moon is as young as suggested, its origin would coincide with the beginning of life on Earth, which is unexplained in the GI theory. The manuscript asks, "Was the Moon Turned Inside-Out" and the answer is "Essentially, Yes."

Titan it is!

The name Titan, and the names of all seven satellites of Saturn then known, came from John Herschel (son of William Herschel, discoverer of Mimas and Enceladus) in his 1847 publication Results of Astronomical Observations Made at the Cape of Good Hope.[19] He suggested the names of the mythological Titans (Ancient Greek: Τῑτάν), sisters and brothers of Cronus, the Greek Saturn. So who gets to post the next puzzle?
Oh! I just discovered something, and I can't resist. I just have to post a puzzle. This picture is the clue, and the answer isn't Mars (or Earth). It isn't Martian, either. (And it isn't a blue star!)

What could it be?

Ann

P.S. Here's another clue, and now it's getting easy. I'll refrain from posting anything for a bit, while you are thinking about the answer!

P.P.S. HELP!!! I can't make a single new post until someone has posted a relatively good answer! I'll have to edit this post instead!

Beyond, I know you are there. PLEASE make a guess. Please?

You see, I couldn't post anything else whatsoever until I got the correct answer! That's because I had 4039 posts. NGC 4039 is the NGC number of one of the famous Antennae galaxy - unfortunately NGC 4039 is the redder of the two! Oh well, at least it is one of the Antennae galaxies.

You can see two long spectacular tidal tails emanating from the two galaxies. The tidal tails are the antennae, and the galaxies are the Antennae!

Okay, and now that I can let loose posting again - I think it is important that anyone should be allowed to take part in the guessing game, without being forced to post another puzzle of his or her own. People have taken part here before without posting a new puzzle when they figured out the correct answer.

So anyone can post a new puzzle now, if they want to! I have another idea, but if anyone else wants to post a puzzle now, please do so!

How about you, Moonlady?
