I remember hearing that trick before. It's pretty unusual for us to get anything but dry powder, so I forget about it. Indeed, I only rarely need to use a shovel at all; usually, the best tool for getting rid of snow- even deep snow- is a broom.

A popular tool for getting rid of Swedish snow, the snowblower.

It works well... most of the time.

It's been pretty cold the last few days; but I see some warm air is to move in come Saturday! That suits me OK! It looks like March will come in like a lamb! I hope it goes out like one also! :D

Popular here, as well... although not much used the last few years. Personally, I seek to reduce my consumption of fossil fuels to the absolute possible minimum, so I don't use these kinds of machines, when a shovel can do the job just fine.

We've just had a really good winter storm here. They predicted 10-15 cm of snow last night and a further 10 cm today. So far we've received less than 1cm. Now that's my idea of a winter storm.

hahaha, that's just 'normal' forcasting Rob. I've gotten a foot and a half from what was supposed to be a nice sunny calm day :!: I think that was what was called the perfect storm, that they made a movie of. The storm was supposed to go about east over the ocean, but became a gully-whumper and 'backed-up' to the east coast, so the N/E corner of Connecticut got a wet sloppy Blizzard.

The weather is upside down here in Sweden. This last week brought super-mild weather to northern Sweden, which had above-freezing temperatures for seven "24-hour periods" in a row, which means that spring now has officially arrived to parts of northern Sweden. The amazing mild weather arrived from two directions, from the north and from the east. This means that a lot of people in northern and eastern Sweden will get spring before us down south and west. We in the western part of southernmost Sweden almost always get spring before anyone else, but now we are still plunged in winter.

But March has been fairly good to us. Yesterday was clear and sunny, and the temperature was a few degrees above freezing. It was the best weather we have had for weeks.

Northern Sweden, which officially has spring now, will be hit by a bad blizzard today, and north of the blizzard there will be truly freezing temperatures. So maybe I shouldn't be so envious of the ones up north.

Nasty cold wind today; but that is a small price to pay when Minneapolis was getting a storm this morning1 The jet stream was to the North and East of here; but we still got the the cold wind!

We're expecting snow. How much where is the big question; out along the Blue Ridge, accumulations are expected to be in the 10-15" range. My neighborhood is on the line between the bands for 3-8" and 6-12", but farther east, expected snow totals go down eventually to nothing, as the farther east one goes, the more likely the precipitation will be just rain. The snow will be heavy and wet; power outages are likely.

The Weather Channel has referred to the storm as Saturn. In the DC area, however, it's being called Snowquester.

It's snowing! The Federal and local governments are closed, as are school systems, colleges, and universities. No work for me today! Expected snow totals have increased; I'm now on the line between the bands for 5-10" and 7-14". Farther west, I've seen expected total estimates as high as 20". The temperature is just above freezing where I am, so the snowflakes are huge; wind is supposed to increase throughout the day.

The news people are going crazy with this.

Should be good biking weather this weekend, though, with a forecast high of 55°F/13°C.

What a wonderful sunny day here in Germany! I missed over the last months the clear blue sky! It was about 14° C today which felt warm, I didnt need my coat, big wool scarf and gloves :D

But the weather forecast people said the coming weekend we will get again snow and cold temperature and fog and more snow :(

We too had lovely weather, although not quite as warm as you, Moonlady. It was about 11C here, but it felt very nice!

The old cemetery right next to one of the busiest bus squares in Malmö was absolutely yellow with winter aconites. And I saw a ladybug! :D

But the ice cold weather is coming to us too, most certainly.

In early January, American meteorologists said that February would be colder than usual in Scandinavia, and March would also be colder than usual. Looks like they were right, at least when we talk about southern Scandinavia.

Oh my! We are to be blessed with temperatures in the upper 40's today and the 50's Friday and Saturday! :D Thunder showers are predicted for Saturday! Then after a day or two of 40's it is supposed to get into the 60's! I like the warmer weather but I hope it doesn't get too warm too fast! :) I think Spring fever just set in really good!
