Yup, snowing heavily here now too. I've got the camera documenting it time lapse style.
Just call me "geck" because "zilla" is like a last name.

Of course, unless it ends up somehow completely uninteresting due to being too flawed. The street light is providing enough light at the moment and most of the snow is falling at night so at least the animation should be somewhat less flickery than the orchid.

Powerful Nor'easter Coming Together
Yes, we're expecting to get hammered by that one tonight and all day tomorrow (Saturday.) Last winter we had just a few inches of snow the whole winter. This year we've had about 15" so far and this storm could easily double that for us along the coast and triple it further inland. And then it's going to rain!

Meh, the time lapse is getting messed up now. The snow started hitting the window a couple of hours ago due to a slight shift in the wind. The frame is pretty obscured. :(

The spot on the sidewalk I dropped the ruler in measured 21cm (8.25 inches). I'm uploading the video now. It still needs 2.5 hours to finish and then however much time it takes for YouTube to process it.

How many of the ~1000 Weather reports in this thread
never stipulate where the f*** they are talking about:
  • 1) 100
    2) 200
    3) 400
    4) 700

Ugh, I thought everyone knew I was in NYC by now. ;) I'm in eastern Queens, NY, Art.

To my defense, I did put all of the details on the description for my video. Of course, that's still uploading.

I knew that from past discussion, but it does bring up a minor irritation I have with this forum. I wish there was a way to enforce an accurate location entry for all registered members. That's just not a good field to fill in with some witticism. Too many discussions here depend upon knowing where the poster is- not just weather, but most astronomical observations, as well.

I encourage everybody to update their profile with an actual location, at least to the region. It really adds to the clarity of so many comments.

One town in CONNECTICUT got 38 inches. Where i am, in the N/E corner, looks to be less than 2-feet. I'm going to enjoy watching it all melt in the 40'F tempretures comeing, unless of course the weather or not guys are wrong AGAIN!! Then I'll have to get the snowblower going. BLAH! Maybe i can hire a giant Pac-Man? :chomp: :lol2:

Ah, for me it has always been more of a matter of privacy. I never intended it to be witty, just vague. I've had some strange encounters with some individuals online over the years. You're right, though, if someone wants to find out where I live then it's probably easy enough without finding me on a forum somewhere.

Of course, we don't need addresses! In most cases, even the resolution of state (or similar region in other countries) is sufficient. I just find myself frustrated quite often by comments where the location is relevant, and the poster hasn't provided that information in either the post or their profile.

Here's a view out our front door, taken just a few minutes ago. We go down two steps to a brick patio, then up a set of brick steps to the street. To give you an idea of how much snow has drifted in there, the two stones flanking the bottom of the brick steps are about 30" high. There's more to come today and overnight, then tomorrow we just have high winds to blow it all around. I'm stocked up; I may decide not to go out until Spring.

Nice work Geck. Sues glad I live in Sonoma Co. We still get our version of the White Stuff mornings but an old credit card usually sweeps it away for the morning drive
